About this deal

In the early 1990's, James Dixon (1947 - 2010), an extreme Star Trek fan who according to secondhand hearsay from an unknown source, allegedly had a breakdown and eventually died after the 2009 Star Trek reboot came out, posted his own description of the rules to a newsgroup. It focuses on documenting games based on, related to, or similar enough to Chess and on letting you play many of them. In 2381, when the USS Cerritos was being stolen from drydock by Ensign Beckett Mariner, Gary was playing a version of chess on his computer console.

So he wrote to the book's author, Franz Joseph Schnaubelt, who encouraged him to develop rules for the game himself. Chapter25 of David Pritchard's The Classified Encyclopedia of Chess Variants discusses some 50such variations extending chess to three dimensions as well as a handful of higher-dimensional variants.Plans for constructing a Tri‑D chessboard can be found on The Chess Variant Pages, as well as in Bartmess' Tri‑D Chess Rules. After Spock leaves his quarters, Kirk sneaks back into the room and moves the Vulcan's piece surreptitiously. Rules for the game were never invented within the series [11] – in fact, the boards are sometimes not even aligned consistently from one scene to the next within a single episode. An unfilmed line from TNG: " Coming of Age" suggests that the Mordock Strategy was a strategy in Benzite chess. Another variation of chess was used in Spock's memory test in 2286, which featured the game on a spherical grid.

Includes: 32 retro die-cast pieces, sleek three-dimensional playing board, and gameplay instructions. The authentic prop replica of the iconic Tridimensional Chess Set, as seen on Star Trek: The Original Series, includes 32 die-cast pieces that measure approximately 1.

The rules presented here, on chess variants, are not complete and lack rules for castling but also advocate inverted attack boards, which, if nothing else, are highly impractical. The move Kirk ultimately chose for his countersign and response to the move was " Queen to king's level one. In 2380, Q set a challenge for the bridge crew of the USS Cerritos by dressing them as chess pieces and placing them on a giant chess board with elements of several other sports and games. At least, this is the setup shown in the pamphlet I got with my official Star Trek Tridimensional Chess Set almost 30 years ago.

In the final draft script of TOS: " Charlie X", an ultimately unused line of dialogue referred to the chess pieces used aboard the USS Enterprise as " Antarian metal chess pieces". Although he has not published the whole rules online, he has provided a page with a partial description of the game. When pressed for the answer by Garth, Kirk coyly responded that " I'm sure you're aware that there are an infinite number of countermoves. Clearpay lends you a fixed amount of credit so you can pay for your purchase over 4 instalments, due every 2 weeks. While often perceived as a game of logic, Spock found that Kirk's " illogical approach to chess does have its advantages on occasion.

In 2266, during a confrontation with the First Federation vessel Fesarius, while the Enterprise and its crew were apparently helpless against the alien Balok threatening to destroy them, Spock likened the situation to chess in which one is lost when overpowered, suggesting that the Enterprise crew was checkmated and the game was over. Less demanding on spatial vision, and hence more practical, are those games confined to three 8×8 boards and games with boards smaller than 8×8.A problem based on a type of three-dimensional chess on a spherical board was part of a memory test Spock took in 2286.
