About this deal

Manual peelers are available in a straight handle design or a Y-peeler. For the straight handles, the blade is parallel to the handle, so you’ll hold the blade on its side and work in a sideways fashion, sort of like you’re brushing hair. For a Y-peeler, the blade is perpendicular to the handle, so you’ll work in a more vertical motion like you’re painting a wall top to bottom. The difference in stroke can largely be left up to personal preference. We had no issues peeling any vegetables, from hard sweet potatoes to delicate tomatoes. It cut well in both directions, though we did find that sometimes peels got caught in the blade rather than falling away, so it slowed the peeling time down a bit, especially with potatoes. However, the peeler managed to remove the peels in one swipe and didn't remove an excess amount of the actual potato. Make peeling a pleasure with the Swivel Peeler from OXO Good Grips. The sharp stainless steel blade has been precision ground to create a super-sharp edge. This OXO peeler glides through tough skins on fruit, as well as potatoes and other vegetables. There's also an eyeing tool at the end of the blade to help you remove any blemishes, perfect for misshapen spuds.

OXO Good Grips kitchen utensils The best way to know which potato peeler is right for you is to figure out what you're mainly going to use it for and how often. If you're mainly using it to peel potatoes, perhaps a swiveling one with a comfortable rubber grip works best. If you're going to use your peeler for other purposes, such as julienning, something dual-purpose with extra-sharp blades may be more your speed. If you'd rather the tool do all the work (and you have the kitchen space), consider an electric peeler.Type of blade: Do you want a straight or serrated edge blade? Straight edge blades can be better for potatoes and create a more presentable, smooth finish, but serrated edges can be more efficient for soft and delicate fruits. When you’re prepping for a large dinner, it’s always nice to do some of the work ahead of time. Yes, you can peel your potatoes ahead, but after peeling they should be submerged in cold water to keep them from turning brown. They can be peeled up to 24 hours in advance and kept submerged in cold water in the refrigerator. With its large, easy-to-grip rubber handle, the peeler sits comfortably in the hand, even if you suffer from limited dexterity or small hands. The super

Kyocera has made a name for itself with super-sharp ceramic knives, so it should come as no surprise that this ceramic peeler performs just as well. The Y-shaped tool won't rust or corrode, and the ceramic material minimizes food browning, which comes in handy when peeling large amounts of apples or potatoes. Like Kyocera’s ceramic knives, the blade on this peeler is made from the company’s proprietary zirconia material and will stay sharp much longer than similar metal knives. OXO have been making thoughtfully designed, easy-to-use household utensils and items since 1990. The brand takes a closer look at everyday objects and activities, then decides how to make them simpler, faster and easier through intelligent design and subtle tweaks. OXO utensils are friendly, functional, high-quality and can make your everyday life that little bit easier. If you’re wanting an automatic peeler, but you don’t own a stand mixer, you can opt for this freestanding electric peeler. It claims to work on most produce, such as potatoes, apples, citrus, and stone fruits. Although the position of the peeler can be adjusted to accommodate fruit and veggies of all sizes, it struggles with thinner items like parsnips and carrots and heavier items like butternut squash. The handle isn’t uncomfortable, but it's not as comfortable as peelers with larger or soft-grip handles. While this cut well in testing, the cutting felt rough rather than smooth because of the way it’s sharpened. Although it isn’t a serrated peeler, a close inspection showed that the sharpening is slightly rough. The peeler rattled a bit during cutting, which made it seem less sturdy, but it still got the job done. Since it has two sharp cutting edges, we could cut in either direction, and it’s great for both left- and right-handed users.

Built for peeling, coring, and slicing apples, this can be converted to peel-only mode for potatoes or for other fruits and vegetables that don’t need to be cored or sliced. The peeling blade is adjustable to two settings for smaller foods or deeper peeling, or for larger foods or less aggressive peeling. We successfully peeled and cored apples, and moved on to peeling potatoes and sweet potatoes. This worked best with foods that were more round rather than uneven or oval. With some potatoes, we had to do a little trimming to remove sections of peel. We also had to cut our long sweet potatoes to fit.
