About this deal

The Service has been prepared by us solely for information purposes to Members and the Service is based on information we consider reliable and we obtain the contents of the Service from a number of different third party sources (including Contributions), but we do not endorse, support, represent, warrant or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of the Services and any information therein. The whisky is 100% malted barley, aged in ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at 46% abv, and the distillery is located in Keith, Banffshire (Speyside region of Scotland). The name Aultmore is derived from the Gaelic word Ant-Allt Mor which means “big burn”. The “big burn” refers to the water source the Auchinderran Burn. A “burn” is a spring or source of water. A wonderful bottling of 12 year old Aultmore. This Speyside single malt whisky was bottled for Diageo's Flora & Fauna series in 1991. In 2015, John Dewar & Sons launched the “Last Great Malts” collection in an effort to be more competitive in the growing single malt market. Among the line-up were three Aultmore releases – a 12 year old, a 21 year old travel retail exclusive, and a 25 year old limited release. An 18 year old was introduced at a laterdate. Aultmore was once found mostly in the blended whiskies of John Dewar & Sons (Dewar's White Label, Dewar's 12 Year Old, Dewar's 18 Year Old). It was rarely enjoyed on its own.

The Aultmore 12 Years may be a little light and delicate, but it’s not the average young Speysider. Fresh spring-time nose, lots of apples, with some mineral touches that give it an old-school touch. A must in the entry level. Around € 45. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

Finish: a touch of sourness, but not enough to make things unpleasant. Long and oaky with echoes of malty sweetness. Nose: Sweet apple crumble with crisp burnt sugar and biscuity crumb, hearty notes of tea loaf, Madeira cake, and Biscoff. Chocolate caramel and fruity fig add to the sweet treat vibes with buttery oak building beneath.

I expected this to be another one-dimensional Speyside whisky, but I was pleasantly surprised. The grassy, pear, vanilla combo plays well with the gentle waxiness. At 46% ABV, age stated, natural color, and NCF, this is a nice ex-bourbon matured 12 year old single malt Scotch at a reasonableprice. Aultmore flavor profile is very good but it reminds me of another whisky that I am having trouble putting my finger on. I cannot really compare it to anything else, but for some reason I am reminded of the Bruchladdich Laddie, but that is a real stretch. I think my mind is comparing it more to its standalone flavor profile rather than their similarity. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. Palate (undiluted): slightly sharp arrival, medium-bodied and creamy, with more pear and green grape notes, there's a hint of cereal (barley) sweetness, but it's subdued and doesn't dominate. Finish: Medium length. Slightly drying. Pears and green apples fade, heather and citrus linger. Pepper and spices. Vanilla and woody notes to theforefront. In 1923it became part of the John Dewar & Sons estate and has remained so ever since. In fact, so highly prized is it as a blending malt that it is said that when Bacardi was in the process of buying Dewar’s from Diageo, it was willing to walk away from the deal if Aultmore wasn’t included.Nose: fresh and lively, with some biscuity aromas and green fruits. Granny Smith apples, unripe pear, light citrus, green leafy notes. Also bright flowers and just a hint of wax. Rather delicate but very uplifting. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”).
