About this deal

The Donner DEP-10 is best suited for those who are just getting started. It has great basic piano sounds, and just enough extras to keep it fun and exciting.

Now, both of these pianos are full, 88-key keyboards. So, they are far from compact. You can get carrying bags and cases for either piano that will make it much easier to bring around. However, the main reason the Donner DEP-10 is the more portable option is because of its weight. This piano weighs around six pounds lighter than the DEP-20, which makes a big difference when you carry it around a lot. Donner DEP-10 vs Donner DEP-20: The SimilaritiesThere are more than a few similarities between these two pianos. Since they are entry-level beginner’s pianos, they are actually more similar than you may think. For starters, we already talked about the similar hammer action systems on these pianos. While it isn’t the most realistic system out there, it is ideal for children and beginners who have a hard time with the heavy hammer action of an acoustic piano. The two built-in 25-watt speakers are powerful enough for home practice, and for coffee shop gigs. You won’t have to buy external speakers, which is a big pro in my book. We hear the string ensemble at 10:00. It sounds kind of canned, but I’ll let you decide how you feel about the sound yourself! The Donner DEP-20 has adjustable touch sensitivity. This allows you to tailor the piano and keys to your playing style, which is great for just about any pianist out there. This is also a great way to compensate for the fairly heavy keys, as you can simply set the sensitivity to light for an easier time. A: The best acoustic piano for beginners is a product that provides the desired features and comes at a reasonable price. What’s the Best Acoustic Piano for Beginners? Learn how the Alesis Recital beats out the Donner DEP-10 with its more sophisticated features in this Donner DEP-10 vs Alesis Recital comparison.Overall I would recommend this keyboard to beginners, but not more advanced pianists, as the weight on the keys is a bit too light to be able to translate the finger technique to an acoustic piano without feeling any difference. The matte finish of the keys will assure a good enough grip to make a difference during long practice sessions when your fingers start sweating. But they’re not quite the artificial ebony and ivory key tops. Functions In total, you have 8 different voices you can choose from: acoustic grand piano, bright acoustic piano, electric grand piano, church organ, chorus piano, harpsichord, vibrating harp and string ensemble. The main reason why you would buy an affordable digital piano is to learn how to play the piano. The main piano sound of the DEP-10 (which you will probably use most) is surprisingly good. I mean I was expecting a lower quality sound for the price, but I must say that it’s more than acceptable. This kind of makes me wonder how much sound rendering technology has evolved in digital pianos. The other two modes, split and layering, are more for experimentation and performances. You can either assign one voice to each side of the piano with split mode or layer two voices at the same time with layering mode, each of which are very useful features for any beginner, novice, and even professional pianist. These three modes are very useful for novice and beginner pianists. Lesson mode in particular is very important for beginners as it allows your teacher to play along or demonstrate techniques to you without crossing over. Lesson mode splits the piano into two mini keyboards with the same tuning and is specifically designed to make piano lessons easier. The tone of these pianos is nothing really special. They both use relatively good samples for their different voices. However, the reason I found the Donner DEP-10 better is that it had more variety of voices, though not by a lot.
