Assault Bikes usually operate in Bike Squads of up to eight and are used for fast-moving assault missions, intelligence gathering, infiltration, and general reconnaissance. Newcomers to the scene, but ancient in the lore, the Leagues of Votann burst onto the scene with a 53.7% win rate in the Nephilim season. This was after the initial codex received a rather substantial points and rules tweak prior to the full range release. At the LVO, the Leagues fell short, managing a 48.2% win rate at the event. No lists made it undefeated past the 4th round of play. Two high-powered armies with fantastic Secondary games slamming into one another on a mission where they both excel at the Primary as well – so who wins?
The plasmacytes perform an integral role in the Extermination Force. They allow the crypteks to keep a watch over the destroyers on the front lines as well as override them into a frenzy when necessary. Potentially one of the real sleeper hits (pun intended) of the melee weapons update, power mauls suddenly making S7 Terminators (albeit for 5 points a pop) is a pretty tasty proposition. The perpetual curse here is being a 1 damage weapon, which significantly hurts them, but if you’re running Creations of Bile taking your Terminators to S8 gets them over an important threshold that may compensate for that. Another weapon that is suddenly worth a second look. Let’s start with the minor stuff, which is the stuff related to Chaos Knights. The new FAQs for Chaos Knights and Engine War only update weapons profiles, including one relic in Engine War. The big updates here make meltaguns even better for War Dogs, since they can have a more consistent damage output. Overall these are minor changes, but nice to have. They shouldn’t dramatically change the faction or its outlook. Big change that was sorely needed, making Reaper Autocannons significantly more usable and giving Chaos Terminators some actual AP on their shooting. The Harlequin list is mostly business as usual with one exception, which is the 3×3 pure shooty Skyweavers. These give some good anti-vehicle reach, and they’re flexible enough for other matchups that you’re never going to hate having them – they’re good at bully charging pure shooting units, Capricious Reflections means that they can hold objectives relatively safely against melee stuff, and they’re not bad at rolling up Marines now that Sky Bolas are actually scary. The Assault Bike, like many other Imperial vehicles, has over the years had numerous variant patterns created by the Adeptus Mechanicus or various Space Marine Chapter Armouries with a wide array of different weapon and feature combinations.
