About this deal

May perpetual light shine upon my Auntie Bridget and my Dad and Canon McCabe, and all deceased members of Celtic Supporters Clubs throughout the world. May they rest in peace. Draw the outline of the Scottish flag and colour in the blue bits on each side of the folded triangle shapes. Then place them on the string to make your bunting! You can string your bunting across a wall, a window, or outside to make a colourful Burns Night decoration.

The Glasgow club designed a badge to demonstrate the pride Celtic have in their history and the cultural connections between Scotland and Ireland. Originally, the Bhoys adopted a crest using a green Celtic cross on a red oval. The design also remained in place until the 1970s. The bottom part of the frame comprises the “1888” mark surrounded by two abstract lines, resembling two bats. Celtic is one of the oldest and one of the most popular clubs in the world. In November 1887, at St. Mary’s Church in the Calton neighborhood of East Rose Street, now called Forbes Street. It was on that day that an Irish priest, Brother Wilfrid, gathered his fellow believers there and suggested that they organize a soccer club. It took him six months to form a team and play his first match. William also provides a bit of history on the development of enamel badges which are still so popular today.

Celtic later adopted the first iteration of their current badge in 1977 with a four-leaf clover at the core. Its design originated in the 1930s but it became commonplace on their kits four decades later. The design also included ‘The Celtic Football Club’ and the year of their formation. Through the years there have been many Celtic supporters clubs, some have come and gone, some have merged with other, old ones have disappeared, new ones have started but through all this one thing remains constant. Obviously the club’s symbols and colours are Irish befitting of our humble beginnings but many probably don’t know that we only started using the hoops in 1903 after wearing green and white stripes before then and of course the original white top with green collar and Celtic cross on the right breast for the first season only. Yet in the same year Willie Maley published his book 'The Story of the Celtic' as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations and the inside cover featured this badge, which made a re-appearance of sorts on the Centenary jersey: The old traditional Celtic Cross badge made a re-appearance in the ‘Centenary Season’ (1987-88), and again in 2003 to celebrate 100 years of the Hoops top.The current badge is an amendment of the previous badge after the takeover in 1995 when the club changed their financial status to a Public Limited Company from a Private Limited Company, hence the writing around the badge had to be amended. For years Celtic supporters have collected badges of every description. The literally thousands of badges produced is in part due to the the number of supporters clubs who made badges for their members
