About this deal

For a different twist on the camping toilet genre, how about going full on Eco-Warrior with the Blue Diamond Composting Toilet? When folded it takes up very little space, but expands to a height of 1.9m and over a square metre of floor space. The updated model we had to review included a rain cover which could be used to cover a mesh opening at the top of the tent. The mesh is useful to allow unpleasant odours to escape! Porta Potti Thetford Corp portable toilet has a tank level indicator for showing the level of water. A porta-potty toilet is unsuitable for our homes’ plumbing. But renting is so important when some of our programs are held. Significantly, when we arrange a program for many people to come to our house, we have to use this toilet. Some chemicals used are more toxic than others and can contain formaldehyde. So if you’re disposing of water that has been treated with formaldehyde, then you must ensure it’s disposed of properly. Failure to do this can cause serious harm to the environment.

The main thing to bear in mind is the size of the waste tank. The cheapest and smallest camp toilets will have a relatively small waste tank, and whilst this might be suitable for a small family to use on a short weekend break, you’ll generally need something with a bigger capacity if more than a couple of people will be using it. The Sanitation Equipment Visa model 248 has a 24-liter capacity with a freshwater tank and a tank waste. Every tank has its level indicator that lets you know when to refill water or dispose of waste. It has an easy-to-use replaceable piston pump with a two-directional rinse for enhanced bowl surface coverage. The holding tank vent is easy to clean and makes discharging to be simple as well. For proper cleaning, you can easily detach the spout storage compartment. It is the best portable toilet for RV, Camping, or Boating. Although you’ll find all sorts of pop-up and emergency toilets, ranging from stools with a bag hanging underneath, to folding cardboard boxes and chamber pot style containers, for family campers, I believe there are only really 2 sensible camp toilet choices. Odours are removed with a 12V fan which can be powered by a 12v battery, solar panel or plugged in to the mains with a 230v adaptor. Apart from that, the toilet comes with an adult seat and lid that provides comfort and safety to the different users. One of the exceptional features of this toilet is its powerful push-button pressurized flush that clears contents and leaves the bowl looking sparkling clean. FeaturesBig family tents will often have several different rooms or even a side entrance that you could use as a makeshift bathroom. or you can buy stand-alone toilet or utility tents. You must wear a mask on your face and gloves on your hands. These types of protective equipment will keep you safe from any infection and intolerable odors. To enhance comfort and improve hygiene, the toilets should be equipped with an odour elimination system. They should also contain enough consumables such as soap and toilet paper that should be replaced frequently.

A bellows pump is the most common portable toilet flush design. This uses a piece of concertina-like tubing which releases water when you push it up and down. The robust Blue Diamond Nature Calls Composting Toilet takes loads up to 200kg. It has an integrated composter under the seat, which collects solids and allows them to decompose and slide downwards, to be removed via a flap as compost. If you’re limited on space, a collapsible camping toilet such as the Carplife Bivvy loo is a good idea, as this will fold up easily and include a seat and a waste bag. Emptying the 335 requires some dexterity when it’s fully ‘utilized’. It can get a bit heavy, although you only have to carry the lower half to the Elsan point and this also includes a handy spout for emptying. Hold your nose and look away!

Different types of camp toilet

Some nice features include a transport roll for easy transportation when full, swivelling drainage pipe and fill level indicator. The first rule of chemical toilets is that you must only empty them in a specifically designated place. Apart from the obvious hygiene issues, the chemicals should not go straight into the sewerage system. The Hi-Gear consists of an outer shell which uses a glossy plastic to disguise the fact that this is a toilet – it resembles a footstool to the untrained eye! Be careful; you should not touch the garbage at any time. Take a hose pipe and attach it to the outlet valve of the toilet. The 7.5l urine container should be emptied daily where possible – not in inland waterways where the nitrogen acts as food for algae. The time taken to fill the solids tank will vary with use. On weekend boats, the solids tank might last a season. On liveaboard boats it might need to be emptied every three to four weeks.

They can be heavy when full, especially if you go for a camp loo with a large waste holding tank, you can pop them on a rolling trolley though if the carrying weight is a real problem. The Visa Potty 248 model features an extra deep bowl that provides the user with additional comfort. Apart from that, it has a lid that snaps during the closing to avoid vibration when moving. This is a great toilet for tiny houses or for RVs. FeaturesThe liner bags contain special powder which combines with the waste to produce a neutral end gel. The bags can then be safely disposed of in any bin. This is really useful and means you don’t have to search around for an Elsan point or dog waste bin.
