School And The Magic of Children’ is an exploration of the very soul of childhood, leading us on an adventure into the world of Story via Drawing Club and then into a new lens to look through at play itself with the concept of Play Projects. Thank you Karen! I never though I could do faces. You broke it down so it was understandable! And I love your book! I got it yesterday! Can't wait to start practicing! It's so much fun!!!!!

Children love to create characters or draw pictures for stories. Make simple folded-paper comic books, or use this Kapow art lesson, which shows you how to make concertina books . Children can illustrate a story of their own or one they already know. His two education books ‘Can I Go And Play Now?’ and ‘School and the Magic’ of Children’ have attracted much attention with their call for education to embrace childhood and the ‘echoes of play’. Regular drawing at any age can enhance focus and concentration and increase self-esteem, and this can be especially beneficial for school-age children. The skills learned can also support students’ pursuit of a wide range of creative subjects in school, further and higher education, and open doors to careers in the arts, design, architecture, and science. The class is untutored and you will need to bring your own materials. We do have boards, easels and clips available for you to use. The Doughnut Planning tool - a really simple way to get dialogue started about children and usable in multiple ways to think about the minutiae of skills as well as the bigger picture stuff like imagination, social skills, independence - you name it, Doughnut Planning can help you hugely.

You are effectively buying The Story Dough! e-book, a step by step guide to the 'how' of Story Dough! along with a free online walkthrough of the concept with Greg. If you are a school that believes children should be writing recounts and instructions and diary entries at the age of 5 and 6 then the Curious Quests is not for you. This is always a great stimulus for artwork. Choose a country to research and look at the types and styles of art produced there; the children could be involved in this. Ask them to come up with the country’s traditional art. The message centre enables our children to explore the joy of messaging, an approach to sprinkling extra joy over the top of their day, showing them how reading, writing and mathematics can be hidden in and around their room and outdoors too. Our children love hiding and finding – think pass the parcel, birthday presents, egg hunts and hide and seek. There is a buzz to be had, and it is this buzz that the Message Centre approach has at its heart. Our Drawing Clubs are open to students in school years 5 to 9 who have a passion for drawing and would like to attend a weekly Saturday class. The Drawing Clubs are led by professional artists who are alumni of our postgraduate programme, The Drawing Year, and experienced in teaching children. The Magic Mirror from 'School and the Magic of Children' - a telling way to see whether you have added to or eroded childhood. It can be a fantastic way to show that childhood is being honoured and valued across your day. You will also need to be committed to joy. And not just you, your school leaders too. The Curious Quests are not about writing text types because this is not in the Year 1 Writing National Curriculum as an expectation - children become detached from writing when adults turn it into a task. Scribble Club is aimed at 2,3 and 4 year olds and is an exploration of scribbling, a way of delighting in its process. In some ways it is a forerunner to the Drawing Club concept although it is entirely based within the hum and buzz of co-play. Scribble Club explores how to add an extra layer of joy to the day through scribbling's powerful link to invention, magic and story. Don’t worry if you miss a week, as you haven’t missed a vital part of the course. Art Club lets you explore and develop at your own pace. Art Club Content You can experiment with a range of different mediums from pencil to acrylic paints. Focus on one specific medium over several weeks, or try something new each session.
