After a nineteen-year gap in between albums, they would release their fifteenth studio in 2020 entitled The Symbol Remains. Our top 10 Blue Oyster Cult albums list is a tribute to some of the best albums the band has released throughout their long legendary career. # 10 – Blue Oyster Cult George, Eli (June 30, 2011). The band was definitely looking to expand their audience with this album. However, the record itself did not sell as well as the band’s previous albums. Nonetheless, we still love this record, especially the songs “In Thee,”“Mirrors,” and “The Great Sun Jester.” # 6 – Cultösaurus Erectus Agents of Fortune Billboard Singles". AllMusic. Rovi Corporation. Archived from the original on August 31, 2012 . Retrieved March 2, 2012. Continuing with our Top 10 Blue Oyster Cult albums list we present the band’s classic album Tyranny and Mutation. This was Blue Oyster Cult’s second studio album release. The record was issued in 1973. On the Tyranny and Mutationalbum, Blue Oyster Cult showed great artistic growth on many levels and in various forms. Studio experience is a big plus for bands as they learn to navigate the tools of the studio while also learning to relax when that red light goes on. The playing is tighter, the songs were much better written and the performances are all outstanding by the musicians.

Agents of Fortune reached the Top 30 on the Pop Albums chart and launched the band into an even larger concert attraction, where the Blue Oyster Cult indulged in a state-of-the-art laser light show to accompany their music. Through the next half decade, the group’s popularity continued to grow with more album and live success, reaching its peak just before Albert Bouchard left the group in the early 1980s. The Irish Charts – Search Results – Don't Fear) The Reaper". Irish Singles Chart. Retrieved 15 April 2021.

Fire of Unknown Origin also did extremely well on the charts. It hit number 24 on the Billboard Top 200 album charts. It hit number 21 on the Canadian Music Album charts. Fire of Unknown Origin was also a very successful album in the United Kingdom hitting number 29 on the UK album charts. After the massive success of the album Agents Of Fortune in 1976, the band was faced with the monumental task of having to follow up the record of their career with their next album. The band would answer the call big time in November of 1977 when they released the album entitled Spectres. The album would spawn one of the band’s biggest monster hits of their career in the song “Godzilla.” The Spectres album would also become the band’s third straight Gold selling album. The album also featured the great song “Goin’ Through the Motions” which was written by Eric Bloom and the legendary Ian Hunter. # 2 – Fire of Unknown Origin You’re bringing along original drummer Albert Bouchard, an absentee since the mid-eighties. How will he feature in the show? At that show we’ll be playing songs we’ve never before played live. Joe is participating in that because it’s a charity event, with proceeds going to the American Lung Association. Fire Of Unknown Origin (Original Version) -- (A. Bouchard, P. Smith, D. Roeser, J. Bouchard, E. Bloom)

Kent, David (1993). Australian Chart Book 1970–1992 (illustrateded.). St Ives, N.S.W.: Australian Chart Book. ISBN 0-646-11917-6. Again, there’s no answer. I’ve just been reading an interview with Roger Daltrey, who says he won’t record again because he doesn’t want the results stolen from him. I feel the same way. We don’t like to put live albums on our top 10 album lists because it’s pretty unfair to judge a live album that in many ways is a greatest hits record against the individual solo albums. However, Blue Oyster Cult’s live album entitled Some Enchanted Evening also happens to be the band’s biggest selling album of all time. Isn’t that incredible? I’ve no idea why we’ve never played Ireland before. This is supposition on my part: maybe it has to do with the political problems of the past. I guess things are quieter. Following the 1972 release of their self titled debut album, the group went on an extensive tour while simultaneously writing material for their next album, Tyranny and Mutation. This sophomore effort included the first of the band’s many collaborations with composer Patti Smith. The group’s third album, Secret Treaties in 1974 was the first to receive positive mainstream critical acclaim and launched the band into headlining status for the first time in their major label career.Additionally, this is the only album in the group's discography to have at least one lead vocal performance by each original band member. It was also their only album to not include any songs written by Eric Bloom. However, the 2020 live release 40th Anniversary: Agents of Fortune Live 2016 adds Bloom's name to the authorship credits for "E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)." Popoff, Martin (October 2003). The Collector's Guide to Heavy Metal: Volume 1: The Seventies. Burlington, Ontario, Canada: Collector's Guide Publishing. p.54. ISBN 978-1894959025. Farhi, Paul (January 29, 2005). Cameraman – Bruce Green (8), Dee Nichols (2), Easter Xua, Ed Horton (3), Greg Smith (65), Joe Sloan (2), Steven Paul (3)

Despite the polish, the old groupwere not put to rest though, as the album's first single, " (Don't Fear) The Reaper" showed. Written by Dharma, it connected with radio and the public big time. The single just missed the U.S. Top 10 in the summer of '76, and the album sold, in large part, based on that one song.
