About this deal

I LOVE the sci-fi and fantasy nods and references throughout the story. Call it the big geek in me that loves all the Dr Who and HGttG that slips in and out, but it really adds to the character of the book itself as much as the actual protagonist in the book. Jim C. Hines is an American author that is best known for his contribution to the Fantasy genre. Hines is actively involved in causes that oppose bullying and sexual harassment in the science fiction and fantasy literary fields.

The reactions have not daunted Jim C. Hines from his objective. Though, the author’s passion for activism has never manifested in his stories. Hines has admitted to fighting the urge to get too preachy in his novels. The Unmasqued World: In books three and four, and there are a lot of unpleasant consequences, but each book ends on a note of hope for the future. Evil Detecting Spider: More than once, Issac has relied on Smudge's instincts for when dangerous supernatural threats are near. Libromancer" is a portmanteau of "libro" (derived from liber, Latin for "book") and "-mancer" (a practitioner of a specific type of divination). In fiction, -mancer is a popular suffix used to denote a practitioner of a specific school of magic. All kinds of sf references, many that only true fans would recognize (particularly Doctor Who stuff), and Firefly is one of his top two shows.Swiss-Army Superpower: Libriomancy. Any given libriomancer has access to an arsenal consisting of the entire recorded imagination of mankind. Isaac Vainio is a librarian, but not like any you’ve ever met. He’s secretly a libriomancer, a magician capable of working amazing feats through the power of the written word. In short, he can reach into a book and pull out anything he needs. Within reason. There are rules for this sort of thing, after all, as established by the Porters, the secret society founded by Johannes Gutenberg centuries ago. (Yes, that Gutenberg, he of the printing press. Who knew he was actually a sorcerer?) At one point a character is tiny, a couple of inches high, but dust is still in the same proportions (some dust motes would be at least golf ball sized) and it doesn't take as long as it should to get from place to place. Activate the effect of Herald of the Arc Light once it's in the GY; search out Cyber Angel Benten to add to the hand.

Hines' literary works have been recognized and highlighted at Michigan State University in their Michigan Writers Series. [5] He was a first-place winner of the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Award in 1998 with his story "Blade of the Bunny". [6] [7] In Vino Veritas: While under the effects of a Truth Serum, Isaac admits to fantasizing about Lena. She doesn't mind, though. Isaac’s story feels extremely personal and intimate, even throughout the world-changing events around him.”—SF Signal Red Hood's Revenge (2010) DAW ( ISBN 0-7564060-8-0) Roudette's story was a simple one. A red cape. A wolf. A hunter. Her mother told her she would be safe, so long as she kept to the path. But sometimes the path leads to dark places. Roudette is the hunter now, an assassin known throughout the world as the Lady of the Red Hood. Her mission will take her to the country of Arathea and an ancient fairy threat. At the heart of the conflict between humans and fairies stands the woman Roudette has been hired to kill, the only human ever to have fought the Lady of the Red Hood and survived-the princess known as Sleeping Beauty. From the get go, Jim Hine’s Libriomancer is full of awesome imagery and cool shenanigans. I mean, what could you possibly expect from a book where the magic of reading is not only metaphorical but a literal thing? In that regard Libriomancer is any book-geek’s dream come true. It is so much fun and an ode to books, to reading as well as to genre-fiction especially Scifi and Fantasy. The second half of the book was a lot better however. Thankfully the whole thing wasn't about vampires. We also got more with the magic system, which is really the only thing that makes this book stand out. Closet Geek: Nidhi Shah actually really loves Comic Books. She's just too professional to share that bit with clients. Plot hole: We are told no sentient beings can come from books (Lena came a different way) but vampires are from books. The books, which began publication in 2004, where lauded by the likes of Wil Wheaton for their distinct approach to storytelling and character development. And some have argued that they paved the way for Hines’ involvement in the ‘Fable Legends’ games.
