About this deal

The liked the cast of characters, although there were a few too many extras dipping in and out from the sidelines. But, in the deteriorating events that transpired, all those moments were eclipsed by some very weak and underwhelming twists that didn't make me rise to attention and be curious to want to know who was the culprit.

He’s arranging an installation of work by his star artist on board the ship, it’s really going to be something special. Well, he never makes it to the ship, and they set sell with Olivia having to take the lead on the event.De vreemde dingen die gebeuren, zorgen er voor dat deze spanning nog meer toeneemt en de hele tijd wilde ik weten wat er met Aaron was gebeurd. I think what prevents it from being better is that for a decent chunk (over half, maybe most) of the novel, the events could take place.

A couple of nice moments describing short excursions during an Antarctic cruise, though not nearly enough of them. Thank you to NetGalley and Michael Joseph (Penguin Random House) for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review. You couldn’t get a better location for a thriller, where the characters really are cut off from the rest of civilisation, and Amy McCulloch brilliantly raises the stakes in her book, especially when it becomes clear that there is a killer on board. This had so much potential especially it's a close environment where people are getting murdered, but it doesn't add anything new or interesting to the genre. Without divulging too many details and spoiling, for some reason I couldn't really connect with our protagonist who, as a profession was an actuary, and any of the other characters weren't developed enough to even have an opinion.

It's a difficult task to keep the readers' attention till the very end, one where enough clues have been scattered around and we are now on the brink of discovering the truth. A chilling, atmospheric rollercoaster of a read filled with clever unpredictable twists and beautiful imagery of Antarctica. And actually I would say that this is a notch up from Breathless, if still a bit forgettable and very predictable. I could appreciate the build of suspense and the way all the characters and their activities made for potential suspects, but I latched onto the correct villain nearly from the start and picked up on the motive as soon as I was given enough facts to piece it together.Midnight is chillingly atmospheric, with sub-zero tension and a creeping plot that makes it impossible to look away. There were many attempts to keep the momentum going, offering unexpected revelations for Olivia and difficult challenges that she had to overcome. Her knowledge of the area and the risks that come with traveling there are described so perfectly and really perked in interest in adding a visit to my bucket list. combines an intricate murder mystery with lyrical passages describing ice cliffs and spectacular skies.
