They narrate it perfectly and are very honest and open about their initial self doubt (especially Shea), struggles with the business and sometimes even their relationship. Shea and Syd are talented (obviously) but they’re also dreamers and supporters and risk-takers and pioneers and somehow, still completely down-to-earth. Some of the info about their life was interesting and new to me but a majority of the book was things you already learned and knew about them if you watched their show on Netflix. it is a collection of "dear diary" entries that journal the couples experience in starting a business from the ground up. I’ve loved this couple and Shae’s design aesthetic ever since binging their show on Netflix a few months back.I enjoyed reading about their compelling journey that shaped their design empire we know as Studio McGee. I truly loved getting the peek behind the curtain and found it inspiring, interesting, fun and very well written - I couldn’t stop listening and finished it in just a few days! Want to live the best version of your life Read this book and learn how Syd and Shea prioritized their values, defined their goals, and put their dreams into action--going from flat broke to design superstars--all while following their motto to make life beautiful. As I just finished reading (well, actually listening to your book), I just wanted to take this opportunity in writing this review, to thank you both so very much for this wonderful book and for sharing your amazing story! I thought the format "he said, she said" would bug me, but I think their complementing views on situations helped me better visualize what was going on.

I'm not sure what the point of the book was- it didn't really provide design tips and while I think their goal was to inspire people on how they started their business it didn't feel like they provided real information on that to actually give people tips on how to do that either. They remind me of another famous design couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines, who also started small and grew an empire. I was a huge fan of studio McGee’s work before reading this book, but now I’m super in love with their whole business and the founders.Don't miss Shea's long-awaited interior design book, The Art of Home: A Designer Guide to Creating an Elevated Yet Approachable Home. This is your classic story about how a business started and quickly grew, there are no secrets behind their success that is shared. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. Make Life Beautiful is essential for entrepreneurs, interior designers, working parents, couples building a family and career, and anyone else chasing their dreams. As I have background in retail and consumer PR, I found the business strategy interesting - but you aren’t going to get all the pics and tips you would in a standard design book.
