A prototype was given to Charles's 14-year-old daughter Lucia Eames and later borrowed for the exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1946. Guided by a holistic design concept, in which “the whole is more than the sum of its parts”, their work involves a step-by-step process leading to the discovery and awareness of the very essence of a product.

Designed by Munich based Neuland Industriedesign the polyurethane seat shell is available in a wide range of colours and as a special highlight is also available in a high-quality leather finish. His designs aim to merge traditional design methods and new production techniques into high quality pieces of furniture and product design. Designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl, the NORR11 Elephant Chair in Vintage Leather, is a modern interpretation of Scandinavian minimalism combined with Japanese aesthetics. In the early 1940s, Charles and Ray Eames spent several years developing and refining a technique for moulding plywood into three-dimensional shapes, creating a series of furniture items and sculptures in the process. After years of experience as a product designer, Knut Bendik Humlevik became New Works creative director in 2014.After a limited edition in 2007, Vitra has now added a plywood version of the legendary Eames Elephant to its standard portfolio.
