About this deal

The relatively quick aperture (for a point and shoot) allows for decent low light shooting and surprisingly good subject isolation at certain focal lengths.

You don’t really have much choice as the camera is essentially that irritating 2 film speeds only common on entry-level cameras (ignore the 200 ASA bit, they’re just relying on latitude covering for shooting on 100 ASA settings) Gretna. I was wondering—like you, I have the QD model, but the manual I found on Butkus doesn’t have the data back controls. The Ace has a built-in lens cover, which is opened by moving a small switch that turns on the camera at the same time. And unlike so many of the cameras of the point and shoot class, the XL won’t fit into a pocket or seemingly disappear when not in use. There isn’t any control over the flash, and half pressing the shutter doesn’t even lock the focus point requiring your subject needs to be central for it to be in focus.I found this short review which talks of a soft lens – this didn’t put me off though, in fact, it just added weight to my ability to forget about trying to achieve “high quality” results, and instead gave me the impetus to just snap. I’m curious if the z115 would be comparable, but maybe a little better with the more realistic zoom range.

A date back is standard, and as the Japanese model name World Traveller 28 indicates, it can set the date of 24 cities around the world, including daylight savings time. Beware that in this mode, the minimum shutter speed is 1/100s, so it’s likely that the flash will tend to fire a lot when slow film is used under less than ideal lighting conditions. For clarity's sake, photos must be taken with a Canon 35mm film point and shoot of the Sure Shot series; this additionally includes the Prima and Autoboy series in Europe and Asia, but does not include ANY digital camera, nor ANY other Canon camera. Well, the dial control (and the VF) is what made all the difference for me, otherwise the "other" AF-7 is the exact same camera regarding technical specifications. But there is one point that sells it better than the others, and that is the top shutter speed, which is 1/1200 of a second. In just an hour or less of shooting, the size and weight of the Canon Sure Shot Zoom XL quickly shifts from perceived liability to definitive asset.
