Both cables plug into the left ear cup via a proprietary plug, meaning that you can't replace them with standard audio cords. The microphone is a key component of any gaming headset, and as such, we give all the mics a careful combing over. Hot Wheels Unleashed sounded excellent, too, with the low-end and mids giving the car engines an exciting guttural effect, while you can clearly hear the other cars scraping at your bumper as you leave them behind.

The Open Acoustic version, however, did not seem to offer any larger soundstage than the closed-back one, which was disappointing. I know this stuff can change when you've had the chance to try different genres for extended periods of time. The microphone design is bidirectional, and looks fantastic (Take note, Turtle Beach), with a slight rubber shroud in the middle to adjust its position. In fact, they’re a little loose as I’ve noticed sometimes the ear cups would touch the front of my ears which means I need to push the headphones back a little. The ear cup’s padding material is different as well, again to make the different sound techniques work. There’s no denying the earcups look plasticky but overall it’s very solid and we like the look and feel of them. The bigger question you have to ask yourself is do you prefer portability or richer sound, the option is entirely up to you. You would be remiss to gloss them over simply due to the wired-only connectivity, with our only complaints being the microphone’s loudness and a relatively short cable included in the box. I’ve previously looked into the difference between open and closed headphones and found that open headphones give a better, more accurate soundstage. Over in Gran Turismo 7 , the H6Pro helped me listen out for rival motorists trying to cut me off at the apex, and I was able to defend my position much more effectively as a result.
