The second-chance romance blossoming between Claire and Marcus is mildly interesting but, again, Marcus doesn't have much going for him besides the fact that he's a successful actor and has loved Claire for decades. I packed up and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where I could still be around the music business scene, but not quite as high-profile living. But Claire’s false belief in mutually-exclusive futures and her indecision about those futures dragged on and on. I didn't like the main character, found many scenes unbelievable, and the amount of times the word "said" was used in dialogue scenes was entirely distracting.Through the decades she's remained emotionally close to Marcus, but they've never gotten together, despite obvious mutual interest. Just wanted to preface my review by saying this really was not a book for me that aligned with my interests, which I know affected my reaction to it. Beautiful, descriptive, flowing language really made the setting a character in and of itself, probably my favorite one. Amelia is fun and quirky but doesn’t seem like a pop star to me, but that’s okay, she’s still an interesting character and the perfect love interest for Noah. When in Rome is all that and more with characters who will make you wish they were your friends, a quirky town you'll want to visit, and a romance you'll want to read again and again.

Honestly, by this point, I was just trying to finish the book so I could be done with it, and probably being more nitpicky than necessary, but my suspension of disbelief had been lifted and there was no lowering it again.It offered a slower, somewhat more contemplative stroll through the life of its protagonist, Claire and was just the kind of book that I was seeking. But none of us live in a vacuum, and how her choices will impact those closest to her is a big part of the equation. On a trip to Rome for her sister's wedding, she hits it off with dashing best man Nick ( Josh Duhamel) . It’s everything you could want in a small-town romance, along with a heaping dollop of her signature wit and sparkling charm.

In fact, she’s one of the most delightful narrators I’ve encountered inrecentfiction, full of genuinecuriosity and relatable contradictions. I read this for a book club, so perhaps my mind will change after our discussion because someone in the group clearly liked it enough to add it to our list, but I had a really hard time finishing this book.Daughter Dorothy and best friend Monica along with Sisters Felicity, Therese, and Georgia provide family (and hijinks) and community as Claire considers her options.
