The gospel approach is perhaps best summed up by Jesus in his discourse on the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25:31-46), when he explains that he shall come again to judge all people and will look favourably on those who welcomed a stranger because in doing so, they welcomed him.

This story teaches us that we should not be afraid to show hospitality and kindness to someone whom we do not know.Herein lies the root of our dignity, the very image of God within us, and of our positive desire to welcome the stranger; We are capable of friendship in the truth.
