About this deal

Enhances colour saturation and contrast sharpness to give you better, brighter colours and detailed visuals for real-time strategy (RTS) or RPG games. The screen can take an HDR10 input signal but has no local dimming capability, so cannot truly offer an improved dynamic range.

Asus are first to market with the support for simultaneous blur reduction and variable refresh rate, something which is bound to attract the attention of gamers. At the lowest height adjustment the bottom edge of the screen is very low to the desk, at about 15mm.The screen offered the wide viewing angles of IPS technology and was free from the restrictive fields of view of TN Film panels, especially in the vertical plane. There is support for adaptive-sync for variable refresh rates meaning you can use the screen from compatible AMD FreeSync systems as well as NVIDIA G-sync. This was done at 165Hz for the table above, although the active refresh rate only has a minor impact on brightness output anyway. Activating ELMB works well, with butter-smooth gaming throughout and no sign of any ghosting or tearing – and the screen looked incredibly sharp.

TF = 60 had previously been too aggressive at 100Hz, but here at 144Hz there was no noticeable overshoot in practice at all which was good. IPS technology gives you superior images with outstanding colors thanks to 99% sRGB colour gamut and an astounding 1,000:1 contrast ratio.Performance during VRR (Variable Refresh Rate)– bearing in mind that the refresh rate will fluctuate anywhere from 1Hz up to the maximum supported by the screen (e. IPS technology gives you superior images with outstanding colors thanks to 99% sRGB color gamut and an astounding 1,000:1 contrast ratio. You could also seem some noticeable overshoot and pale trails behind moving objects at 60Hz, which weren’t visible at the higher refresh rates. We would have liked a little less overshoot on the VG27AQ, and a better performance at lower <80hz refresh rates, but overall the response times were decent and could support the high refresh rate on offer.

An X-rite i1 Display Pro colorimeter was used to validate the black depth and contrast ratios due to lower end limitations of the i1 Pro device. It’s worth using this feature for fast-paced, competitive games, and it does add some extra versatility to this screen, but be aware that this new technology only has a minimal impact when considered alongside the rest of this display’s features. Luminance uniformity of the screen was good overall, with the top right hand corner showing the only significant deviance on our sample. Gaming screens invariably give you a control for the overdrive impulse in the OSD menu which can help you tweak things, but response time performance and overshoot levels can vary depending on the active refresh rate. The arm of the stand is finished in a matte black plastic as well, and connects in to the middle of the back of the screen. The FPS, RTS and RPG options are very bright, but with poorer Delta E figures and warmer colour temperature results – so images look a little too red and oversaturated. The VG27AQ has a generous 130mm of height adjustment, and it has 180 degrees of left-to-right swivel and 38 degrees of front and back tilting. Don’t just take a photo at the default brightness which is almost always far too high and not a realistic usage condition.

The CIE diagram on the left of the image confirms that the monitors colour gamut (black triangle) extends only very slightly beyond the sRGB reference space (orange triangle), only really observable in blue shades. Combine the colours, input lag and refresh rate abilities and you’ve got a screen that’s very good for fast-paced scenarios. Today, we have millions of users a month from around the world, and assess more than 1,000 products a year. These aren’t ruinous figures and the small differences won’t be noticeable during games, but this panel is not the most consistent on the market. If DeltaE <2, LaCie considers the calibration a success; there remains a slight difference, but it is barely undetectable.TUF Gaming VG27AQZ is a 27-inch, WQHD (2560x1440), HDR IPS display with an ultrafast 165Hz* designed for professional gamers and those seeking immersive gameplay. There is a 4ms G2G response time spec is offered, along with a 1ms MPRT spec which applies when using the ELMB blur reduction feature. ASUS Shadow Boost technology clarifies dark areas of the game without overexposing brighter areas, improving overall viewing while also making it easier to spot enemies hidden in dark areas of the map.
