About this deal

Speaking about how climate change will have an impact on the trees presented to the monarch over the next 50 years, the Queen ‒ who has planted over 1,500 trees all over the world ‒ quipped: “I won’t be here though. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch. The Queen: 70 Glorious Years is a hardback and features over 77 images chosen to represent The Queen’s reign. It was far more than a catalogue of key events and appearances: we were given a social and cultural, even political, overview of how things have changed both at home and abroad, and how Her Majesty relates to that momentous succession.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward said Sir David was so concerned about the film going out he told the BBC "You’re killing the monarchy, you know, with this film you’re making. In February 2022, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will mark seventy years as monarch with a celebration known as the Platinum Jubilee. These photographs document Her Majesty's early life before she acceded to the throne in 1952, her official role as monarch, her travel at home and abroad in support of the Commonwealth, and her fondness for animals and family life. Delightfully informal family photographs of The Queen as a young girl, as a young wife and mother, on holiday and enjoying the company of her children and dogs are joined by more formal images illustrating the official life of the monarch, on grand state occasions, such as the Coronation, the State Opening of Parliament and Trooping the Colour - not to mention her memorable encounter with James Bond and her dramatic arrival at the ceremony marking the opening of the 2010 London Olympics. Lulu looked back at her personal memories of the time and highlighted the challenges of food rationing. I think my favourite photograph is the one of the Queen (then Princess) standing in the garden with her father, smiling rather carefree.

These photographs are accompanied by quotes and context and, as such, takes you on a photographic journey of her 70-year reign. Featuring a deep purple background and covered in golden decorations, the chinaware is being hand made in Stoke-on-Trent using techniques going back to the 18th century. The Little People, Big Dreams series, in particular, pores over the lives of extraordinary people, from Maya Angelou and Marie Curie to Frida Kahlo, and tells the stories of their extraordinary childhoods. Narrated by Julie Walters, this warm and evocative programme is a reminder of how much the UK has evolved and developed during the Queen’s reign, and how we have all helped shape Britain. Legendary broadcaster and a natural historian Sir David Attenborough will pay a personal tribute to the Queen.

We saw not just the highs, but also the lows, of our recent island story: the appalling poverty and living conditions of the post-war nation whose crown she assumed; hostility to immigrants; the miners’ strike; industrial collapse. A literary celebration of our longest reigning monarch, The Queen: 70 Glorious Years observes the remarkable life and times of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. These photographs document Her Majesty’s early life before she acceded to the throne in 1952, her official role as monarch, her travel at home and abroad in support of the Commonwealth, and her fondness for animals and family life.

A family-run business based out of Edinburgh, Bookspeed makes all kinds of books for all kinds of people. The Trust is a registered charity, set up to oversee the conservation of the Royal Collection and make it accessible through exhibitions and educational projects.

Each photograph is accompanied by resonant quotations from speeches given by The Queen over the years, including her wartime Children’s Hour radio broadcast at the age of fourteen, her first televised Christmas Day broadcast in 1957, and her speeches welcoming world leaders to Buckingham Palace or responding to the warm hospitality extended to her on state visits. The “Platinum Pageant” will take place on the streets of London as the Queen celebrates 70 years on the throne. She said: “When I went to school the thing I looked forward to, when I was little, was the little tiny bottle of milk that they’d give you mid-morning.

A host of well known names shared their experiences of meeting the Queen, and reflect on how much the UK has changed over the course of her 70 years on the throne.
