About this deal

Talk about suspension of belief - you need to check all rational thought at the door and just settle in for one unbelievable coincidence after another. Rory has recently suffered a dreadful shock and is desperately trying to piece her life back together, hoping that one day she will also have her happy ending. But devastating losses during World War II leave Soline’s world and heart in ruins and her faith in love shaken. Davis’s tale of love and loss, expertly woven around the lives of two women who have nothing—and yet everything—in common, inspires hope that our own happy endings might be biding their time, ready. If you are a fan of historical fiction with a twist of magic, this book needs to make it onto your “must-read” list.

The Keeper of Happy Endings - Barbara Davis

Davis’ tale of love and loss, expertly woven around the lives of two women who have nothing—and yet everything—in common, inspires hope that our own happy endings might be biding their time, ready to show up when and where we least expect them.In the end, light is the only thing that has ever chased away darkness—the only thing that ever will. Haven't we saturated the market with books about WWII and old ladies that are still alive now who lived through those ghastly times, made heart-wrenching choices or sacrifices, bravely fought with the Resistance in some European country or other, who loses her one and only for decades, then conveniently is reunited with him current day because of someone reading her diary/letters/etc? Enough time to thoroughly get to know the characters and not get confused about what’s going on when the time frame flips back and forth.

The Keeper of Happy Endings - Feathered Quill The Keeper of Happy Endings - Feathered Quill

I’ve come to believe we create our own curses and carry them through life because we’ve been told it’s our lot. It’s a contradiction that is part of every woman’s journey—the need to shape in one’s own image versus the aversion to being shaped at all. Davis’s tale of love and loss, expertly woven around the lives of two women who have nothing—and yet everything—in common, inspires hope that our own happy endings might be biding their time, ready to show up when and where we least expect them.I, personally, am fascinated by the time frame of the 1930s and 1940s, especially the WWII period with settings in Europe and especially in France.
