The Gorillaz Art Book is an art book made by Jamie Hewlett in collaboration with fourty other artists illustrating their interpretations of 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel in one expansive volume of original artwork. Soon, we’ll also be treated to a feature-length take on the Gorillaz universe, according to creator Damon Albarn. Over its 40 years in business, PIAS has grown to be one of the largest independently-owned music groups in the world, carving out its own in-house recorded music division PIAS [Recordings].In 2020, they dropped their all-star Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez project as well as Gorillaz Almanac, a book documenting the group’s 20-year history.

I’ve really enjoyed working with so many of my favorite artists and the result is this amazing book. Celebrating 20 years of Gorillaz, this latest Z2 partnership sees Hewlett expand the band’s collaborative vision to fellow visual artists in The Gorillaz Art Book, a stunning visual feast of 288 pages. Published by Z2 Comics, the book spans 288 printed on 150 gsm Périgord luxury art paper and expertly bound in Verona, Italy. I just recently got into the band gorillaz and was so excited to learn more about the lore and the story and everything I was quite disappointed when I found that the hardcover book is so expensive. Featuring brand new artwork by Jamie Hewlett, who has invited more than 40 creators to offer new interpretations of 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs in one expansive volume of original artwork.

An English comic creator, animator, designer, illustrator, and director, best known as the co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl with Alan Martin and co-creator of the virtual band Gorillaz, alongside Blur front man Damon Albarn. This book reminds me a little of Goldtiger which was a humorous pastiche of 60s spy comic serialisations that would appear syndicated in newspapers. Gorillaz have always collaborated with music but this is the first time we’ve done an art collaboration.
