Roger Stern - Wikipedia

The seeds of the 90s Clone Saga and Peter and MJ's relationship were planted during Conway's run, and it's a chapter every fan should read to understand all of Spidey's history. This is a really fantastic collection of college-era Spider-Man stories, with the few really weak points falling more heavily in the earlier issues with Spectacular. I don't mind when every once in awhile there's an editor's caption relating what happened in a previous issue, usually it's welcome. Not so with Stern, who does a nice job of not only reflecting what was happening in the flagship title while he was on PPSSM, but also picking up pieces and characters (the poor, maligned Deb Whitman, for one) and giving them a little spit and polish. In addition to his comics work, Stern has written three novels: The Death and Life of Superman ( Bantam Books, 1993), Smallville: Strange Visitors ( Warner Books, 2002), and Superman: The Never-Ending Battle ( Pocket Books, 2005).

Cronin "Stern and guest-artist Ron Frenz tell the heartfelt tale of a little boy who might be Spider-Man's biggest fan. This miniseries took a different approach to Spider-Man and his life, as it all happened in real time.

This run is considered one of the best of all times even if it was on the shorter side featuring many landmark stories of which "The Kid Who Collected Spider-Man" remains the most famous, ranked as one of the best not only in Spider-Man but comics in general. Unfortunately for this dipstick, the newly formed second branch of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have nothing else better to do than to track his ass down. The arc featured Peter's first brutal battle with Morlun and Aunt May's discovery of Peter's alter-ego, which was all beautifully rendered by John Romita Jr. Stern's writing is characterized by a more humanistic flourish, an ability to put across character psychology and likewise expand on the role superheroes have in the eyes of normal people. But somehow Stern never let that get in the way of his fine sense of character and ability to dream up a spectacular action sequence. Part of the more mature Marvel Knights line, Millar, Dodson, and Cho provided readers with a darker take on Spider-Man.

He introduced new characters whilst bringing back some classics, but his pride and joy is the magneficint, yet sly Hobgoblin. Not that anything here is bad, per se, indeed looking back I'd say that I flat-out enjoyed more than I didn't, it's just that this isn't the groundbreaking character-defining run I've so frequently seen in painted as.Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience. it has a bit of a slow start to the PPTSSM title, Stern was stepping in for Denny O'Neil at the time (rest his soul), whom is much more beloved for his Batman, and Green Arrow/Green Lantern titles back then, titles that he was perfectly fitted on. Luckily, he knocked it out of the park, working with an amazing artistic team headed up by series artist Adam Kubert .
