About this deal

I completely fell in love with the landscape Ragnar so deftly describes, and I was equally drawn in by his ability as a storyteller. The crescendo was not steady and by the time the climax rolled around the thrilling angles didn’t produce the same effect as the introduction had. Enjoyed Ragnar Jónasson’s Snowblind – a modern Icelandic take on an Agatha Christie-style mystery, as twisty as any slalom.

A snowstorm leads to an avalanche that traps the town's residents within the city limits, and a sense of claustrophobia begins to pervade the story. Even though the end of Snowblind didn't live up to the promise of the beginning, it was still a good snow thriller. If you do happen to read this review Mr Golden, don’t leave it another decade – this reader suffers chronic impatience. The people who went missing or died begin to inhabit the bodies of living people and then my confusion is upped to a whole new level. And answers, that would mean you also had a second chance at that crushing kind of loss because, sadly, nothing is forever. In SNOWBLIND, readers are introduced to Ari Thor Arason, a young man training to become a police officer in Reykjavik.

It is a tangled web that involves a compromised new mayor, local politics and a psychiatric ward that is rumored to have been the place where a missing person is being held. So when the storm hit, and I was stuck inside for the weekend- diving into SNOWBLIND by Christopher Golden was a no-brainer.

It should be celebrated, that not only the two towers, Yrsa [Sigurdardottir] and Arnaldur [Indridason] know the art of writing a good crime story. There's a dictum in writing that demands "show, don't just tell," and, in regards to the primary threat of Snowblind, McBride nails that here.

In many ways, this book reminded me of the early Stephen King books, however more attention was needed on the Big Bad. Isolated and only accessible through a dark tunnel bored into the mountain, it makes for a great setting for noir crime novel series. While hunting, one of the hunters breaks his leg just as a blizzard is dumping foot after foot of the white stuff on the mountain. SONNTAGSZEITUNG / “A solid thriller with all the Scandinavian ingredients – from human interaction to evil.To read more about the site or if you want a graphic to link to us, see the about page for more details.

Four friends' hunting trip turns into a blizzard wrapped nightmare and there is someone/thing out there that likes to hunt as well. This may or may not be connected with feuding at the local amateur dramatic society, where passions of more than one sort run high and everyone seems to have a secret. The fact that she was absolutely crazy did not detract From her appearance; in fact, the supposition that she was in no control of her destiny whatsoever was somewhat provocative. His new home is billed as a town where "nothing ever happens," but Ari Thor soon learns that is far from the truth. Neither the readers nor the protagonists know quite what they're up against until fairly late in the book, which makes it all the scarier. The use of landscape blended with unexpected and extreme weather conditions is a very powerful tool in the hands of an accomplished author. A well written tale of dry wit, poetry, song lyrics, metric and currency conversion, and in my opinion, if you read it from end to beginning, a "how to guide" for smuggling cocaine using 1970's style, sophistication and technology.
