About this deal

Additionally, the Sigma lens does have very noticeable distortion and vignetting present (on the wide focal lengths) in the RAW files when compared to the same shots using the Leica lens.

Field review: Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN

Unlike some of the more expensive brands it doesn't have any lens stabilization, but if you're shooting on something like the Sony A7R IV the in-body stabilization makes up for it. This is the shorter of Leica’s two current Summicron f/2 telephoto primes, the other being a 90mm lens. As usual for Panasonic PRO lenses, this one is Leica certified and has a tough splash/dust-proof construction.Growing in popularity, the L-mount is based on Leica’s T-mount system, which stems from the Leica T (Typ 701) APS-C format digital camera, launched in 2014. I shot a devotional episode for my church using the lens and didn’t see any hunting or unnecessary focus loss. Panasonic invites you to ‘take a fresh new approach’ with this lens, although the zoom range and f/4 constant-aperture rating will be familiar to users of Canon and Sigma 24-105mm lenses. All of our lenses belong to one of three lines—Contemporary, Art, or Sports—all of which share our development philosophy and advanced manufacturing system. These issues are quickly and easily removed with the built-in lens profiles in editing applications like Capture One and Adobe Lightroom, but the issue definitely stands out when you compare the RAW files side by side.

The Sigma lens weighs about 100 grams less than the Leica version, and while this isn’t really a significant difference, it does at least seem noticeable when hand-holding the camera, since the system is just that much less front-heavy. Sigma has found a way to keep the weight down and it do so without making it feel cheap or “plasticky. Design-wise, the lens is weather-sealed and also uses water repellent coatings at the front and rear glass. The zoom ring goes from 28mm - 70mm in about a quarter of a turn, so you can really quickly pull focus from a subject far away to a subject close up.As an experienced lens manufacturer that has been creating a diverse range of interchangeable lenses, we have started the innovative chargeable service “Mount Conversion Service”.

Moving into the corner again shows some softness and darkening at the extremes, which as before gradually improves as you close the aperture. It does have a tendency to produce lens flares, but depending on your style of photography and what you're shooting this could be a blessing or a curse.

Its tough but ultra-light polycarbonate design can also help protect the lens from damage if dropped. is fairly good in low light, though obviously not as good as lenses with even larger maximum apertures. Sleek, responsive, smooth to the touch, with both versions of the lenses focus and zoom rings responding at nearly identical speeds. The Tamron at 75mm is slightly sharper and has better contrast in the center of the frame, but the Sigma looks better in the midframe and corner area.
