Sennheiser's extra-wide band driver is used in the IE models all the way up to the excellent IE 900, so the IE 200 should hopefully share some of that successful pedigree. IE 200 promises the sort of sound clarity and audiophile-friendly features you’d find in more expensive in-ear monitors – including swappable MMCX cables and styling shared with Sennheiser’s pricier models. Much as I preference with this IEM the ever slight weight the CS dacs was the perfect middle ground.

Depending on tip position, the IE 200 sound can be characterized as either “bass-boosted neutral” or “bright-neutral. What the IE 200 do really well is the depiction of stage height, which is surprising given the small driver and shell.Micro dynamics suffers with vents blocked a bit compared to the first position with the vent hole somewhat exposed with the chanel. Music is at the core of what we do; and it's our aim to help you rediscover your music and help you enjoy the riffs, basslines and solos that were always there, but never heard. The lower treble sounds a little spicy yet retaining the tonal performance and not being metallic or odd sounding.

Of course, if accuracy is your main aim, studio headphones already do that and many cost less money.The bass sounds so rightly placed yet the clarity lacks a little but keeps the fun and excitement over over the listening period. While the compact, hard-shell carry case doesn’t exude quite the same luxury as the earbuds, it is pocket-friendly and hardy, and undoubtedly a practical accessory. On orchestral tracks, like the opening scene from John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary, the earphones deliver a crisp, bright presentation with a rich (but subtle) lower-frequency emphasis. Recognising that universal earbud fit can sometimes be a tricky business, Sennheiser has designed the IE 200 so that owners can mount the included ear tips in one of two positions, giving them control over the balance they get. Of course, there are exceptions in the market - as I also find the bass of the Bio Diaphragm used in the Yanyin Canon special - has some special sauce like an 8" subwoofer that feels like a 12" Has the slam and some serious sub-bass!
