This lp is inspired pop rock on the level of the Beatles, and yet the Pretty Things were forever stuck in Britain due to drug arrests. The first track on Side B has one big skip that is so familiar to me that when I hear it somewhere else I'm always thrown for a loop when it plays normally. Upon the release of "Trouble", Coldplay abandoned their initial plan of releasing "Don't Panic" as the album's fourth effort, since they deemed three singles were enough for an album. Went back to the vinyl and decided it sounded best of the three playing in the background across the room. Coldplay's record label, Parlophone, had originally intended to use a mixing engineer for the tracks they picked as singles, but eventually hired Brauer to work on all songs on Parachutes [3] except the song "High Speed" which was mixed by Chris Allison.

Coldplay‘s debut album Parachutes is being reissued by Parlophone on limited edition yellow vinyl for its 20th anniversary. Although I haven't listened to Coldplay in years, I am still fond of this album's acoustic grounding and it's the vinyl I've likely listened to most even though I haven't spun it in probably 5 or 6 years. Chris Martin and co have also celebrated their debut album turning 20 by releasing an alternative video for their 2000 Yellow single.

It won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2002, the British Album of the Year award at the 2001 Brit Awards, and many other accolades. With their debut major label single alone, the emotion-fortified "Shiver", Coldplay prove they can shift between elated and crushed in a breath, as singer Chris Martin pours out music's oldest chestnut (unconditional yet unrequited love) with the shakiest of voices and a backdrop of epic guitars. A couple of months later, British record producer Ken Nelson was chosen, producing all but one song on Parachutes. Coldplay have also been marking two decades since the release of their debut by sharing throwback videos and images from the vaults. Parachutes deserved the accolades it received because it followed the general rule when introducing decent pop songs: keep the emotion genuine and real.

I thought 'High Speed' was a really good marriage between the classic rock sound and the new sound that was developing out of it, something that was more atmospheric'.Not as heavy as Radiohead or snobbish as Oasis, Coldplay were revealed on Parachutes as a band of young musicians still honing their sweet harmonies. I am unable to do a side-by-side comparison - but for my money, for a reissue or a repress, this as close as you can get to hearing how Chris, Jonny, Guy and Will sounded in Parr Street, Rockfield, and wherever else in 1999 - 2000. The vinyl itself is pretty fine, but the mastering is clearly compressed and more lifeless than my CD version.

The band began work on the album at Rockfield Studios in Wales, continuing with sessions at Liverpool's Parr Street Studios.

No surface noise at all, but it's the first record I've bought that I noticed sounded "bad" - flat, lacking depth and dynamics, and very notable sibilance - especially on the quiet parts of "Spies. Modified Rega P3,with RB880 tonearm,Rega Neo,Orea bronze feet(3),pro-ject turntable platform(for precise tt leveling),Goldring G1042,WHEST TWO. The lower end comes across a lot better - the beginning of B3 and bass/kicks of B5 for instance sound great. Coldplay's indie rock inclinations are also obvious, especially on songs such as "Don't Panic" and "Shiver," but it's the dream pop soundscapes captured on "High Speed" and "We Never Change" that illustrate the band's dynamic passion.
