Another cracking read from Mara who has a fantastic writing style that draws you in to the darker elements of suburbia. They must communicate and explore each other's nightmares and fears if they have any chance for survival. This book creeped me out more than some adult horrors I’ve read AND covered social issues at the same time. There's not much of Rebus' personal life here: wife and daughter are out of the picture, he has split up from Gill Templer (though there are still some feelings there), his brother has been packed off to jail, and there isn't that much interaction with his colleagues beyond Holmes (whom he is only just getting to know) and Watson.

But when she finds out that it once belonged to the Murphy family who’s daughter Lily went missing when she was 3 years old, Joanna feels unsettled and upset that it wasn’t mentioned before. She isn’t afraid to delve into some very dark topics in her books and Hide and Seek is no exception. Some of my favorite books are ones where the text is saying one thing and the pictures are saying something completely different.

I highly recommend Hide and Seek, I think along with The Sleeper Lies, it’s probably my favourite Andrea Mara so far.
