The fate of some characters were really sad surprises but its like you kind of feel happy for them since they went down doing what they believed would redeem themselves from the bad things they have done in the past. It takes a terrible event and the disappearance of her best friend (the governor's daughter) to set Isabella upon a quest which could result in her death and the destruction of the world she holds so dear. I think because this book is so short I didn't feel connected to the characters which really effected my reading experience.

What I particularly loved about the book was that it closed with more questions than it had answers, it left me wanting more and also drew me to the world and those within it even more.
