Really warm, funny and informative book that covers lots of topics and issues surrounding the menopause. I want us to keep talking, and to create a home for our menopausing community so no woman feels alone in her experience (we’ve got you). Dr Nighat Arif, the BBC Breakfast GP and menopause specialist, tries to reach out to her underserved community by doing TikToks in Urdu. I did offer to send this book to my boss but he already knows about it he goes thru it with his wife and me.If you are looking to understand and feel less alone and to help the women coming up behind you please read this now. I am sold, and also outraged that women who could benefit aren’t offered it, but the assertion got repetitive. You can really hear Davina’s voice coming through, it’s not been ghost written by somebody else - although there is additional information added by a qualified doctor regarding the medical side of things.
Would definitely recommend, as a women going through the menopause, this has given me so many valuable information. There are two small areas of the book which mention ‘women who have had cancer’ it talks endlessly about HRT which is never an option for women who have had oestrogen positive cancers obviously! It covers the peri menopause in detail too, so the minute you get a hot flush, experience brain fog, feel like you’re going crazy, then you need to read this - you won’t feel so alone.There are oestrogen receptors in every part of your body and if fluctuating hormones are sending erratic electrical signals to your heart and internal thermostat, what messages might they send to your mind? I thought perimenopause was just the run-up to the menopause and not a treacherous passage in itself.
