The case - a judge and her bodyguard murdered together - seems simple at first, but Decker and White quickly realise that nothing is as simple as it seems as they get drawn into a web of intrigues spanning the whole of Florida and going back over generations. He suffered a major head injury during his short NFL career that left him with perfect memory and synesthesia. Baldacci carefully and thoughtfully put together elements and plot points that forced Decker to deal with his own life. It was easy to immerse yourself in her background, her family and career struggles, and I especially loved her Tae Kwon Do skills that definitely earned Decker’s respect.

They drove up to a gated community in the town of Ocean View, which was situated about half an hour north of Naples. On the positive site: it ís a David Baldacci so it is very well written and there is a lot going on between all characters. This is a terrific addition to a wonderful series, it was great to see Decker begin to connect with White, comprehending that it is the human connections that make life worth living. He was in his forties and walked with a swagger more befitting a Navy SEAL than a luxury community rental cop gatekeeper.

He saw betrayal in her features, but that might have been due to his own sense of guilt placing it there. I highly recommend starting at the beginning, with Memory Man, as this will give you background into who Amos is who he is and why. I happened to pick up on one of the main clues when it was given fairly early on and because of that was able to guess part of the solution very early, but that was a complete coincidence - if I had been a little more tired or inattentive, I would absolutely have missed it. Amos Decker has evolved and helped readers know him a little better, but there is a great deal of change for the behemoth in this piece, which takes the story down to the humid climate of Florida. The disease had spiraled continually downward, as her brain deteriorated and dragged the rest of her along with it.Fans of Baldacci’s 'memory man'character will be highly satisfied with Long Shadowsand anxiously await the next installment in the series.

Together with the prospect of working with a new partner, Frederica White, Amos knows that this case will take all of his special skills to solve. One of the physical clues at the crime scene includes a black blindfold placed on the judge with the two eye holes cut out, seeming to send a message that she had made one too many enemies during her time on the bench.

As a person of color and a woman on top of that, I find it a necessity to my future well-being, and that of my family. A woman who owns what looks to be a two- or three-million- dollar home is not driving a dented-up ten-year-old Mazda. All the while, White is struggling with her new partner and seeking to juggle single parenthood with children who are growing up fast. The plot is relatively linear, but with sub-branches and tendrils to keep track of, it suits reading in larger sections. Since I liked this series from the beginning, I don't read the blurbs anymore so I was shocked to see so many changes happening with this series.
