About this deal

His well-loved Bunny vs Monkey and Looshkin stories are regularly published in The Phoenix comic, and as bestselling graphic novels. With rare exceptions such as bank holidays, the book group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7. In this rollicking comic extravaganza, the pint-sized friends must tackle a helliphant, rocket-powered hot air balloons, and the most mind-boggling creatures of all.

On Saturday I’m on stage with the brilliant Neill Cameron running a comics extravaganza for 350-ish people. Trapped on Earth, the stranger tries desperately to convince all and sundry she is ‘Actually Pig’, often assisted by typical distractions like marauding sprout-farting monster ‘Gruntulak! As monkey demands 25% more evil from his crew, he’s distracted by Metal Steve’s latest faux pas – a doomed relationship with ‘Wipey’ –and ‘Sun 2. But lines like these are only one of the pleasures of Jamie Smart’s comic strip adventures, Bunny vs Monkey. As his bones mend he has a Damascus moment: deducing that being a ‘Good Monkey’ might be less harmful.Once the Great Woodland Bake-off inevitably culminates in ‘Cakes and Bruises’ Monkey use a superstrength serum unwisely. The humour is aimed at both children and adults, with plenty of silly jokes and pop culture references. Far away in the icy wastes of Antarctica lives a warm and cuddly, kind-hearted penguin who only wants to do good in the world. Crashlanding in Crinkle Woods – scant miles from his launch site – lab animal Monkey believed himself the rightful owner of a strange new world, despite all efforts from reasonable, sensible, genteel, contemplative forest resident Bunny to dissuade him. Amidst all the chaos though, Bunny, Monkey, Weenie and Pig are proper characters, always believable, no matter what they’re up to.

When portals to parallel dimensions open up, the gang meet different versions of themselves – a whole universe of Bunnies! From the origins of life to the structure of modern ecosystems, this beautifully illustrated and full-colour book follows the story of life on Earth, stopping along the way to relate how key developments have influenced events in history. All those live dates I’ve just listed are sold out except Birmingham and Liverpool, I believe, check out Waterstones live events if you want to bag tickets. So if you have any budding authors in your house do check it out, and maybe I’ll be drawing their winning entry.

BOOK OF THE MONTH - the much awaited latest installment in this popular diary-style series for ages 7+.

Whether you're a longtime fan of comic books or just looking for a fun and lighthearted read, Bunny vs Monkey is definitely worth checking out.
