About this deal

Published in 1997, Remote Control was hailed as the most authentic thriller ever written and has sold over half a million copies in the UK. I was expecting a continuation of his most recent series, so was at first disappointed to find a standalone novel instead, but that feeling quickly ended as I began to read a fascinating, multi-layered novel told from several points of view, with the main protagonist being an amazing little dog named Joe/Felix. She also argues that to completely understand other works such as Heart of Darkness or Lord Jim, readers must look closely at the Lingard Trilogy. The tension, the uncertainty of what will happen next, the gloomy atmosphere, are all vivid and overwhelming.

Andy McNab has written about his experiences in the SAS in two bestselling books, Bravo Two Zero (1993) and Immediate Action (1995). There is "an increased depth of understanding, an increased subtlety of characterization, of thought, of style".Throughout the text, there are lengthy passages in which the plot comes to a halt while the stifling darkness is described.

Dan, who has never truly loved, met Betina for the first time and decided his life revolved around her and Joe. Because these characters are preordained lovers, their feelings prescribed by fiction conventions, their psychology amounts to little more than a profusion of banality.

Joe is a trim fifty-five pounds, short haired, long legged, and saber tailed, with rust ovals on a cream background. But like all of his books, The Rescue is darkly intense, with much more going on beneath the surface than even the characters seem to understand. Lingard questions Mrs Travers somewhat jealously about d'Alcacer, whilst she in her turn thinks that Lingard is enamoured of Immada, by who they are joined on board with Hassim. An American reporter rescues a Mexican street dog that was wounded in a gunfight and when the drug dealers, DEA, and various past owners find out from her stories that the dog is alive, they all come after her and the dog. In 1984 he was 'badged' as a member of 22 SAS Regiment and was involved in both covert and overt special operations worldwide.
