The last Penelope Douglas book I read was Punk 57, which I did not care for, but I’m happy to say that Birthday Girl was a very worthwhile read.Giving up on his dreams to support his new son was not something he ever gave a second thought about. The book is also really short at under 300 pages so it makes for a very fast read that you could easily read in one sitting. However, things aren't going well for her because she's a spoiled rich woman and she receives a text message from a person in her past who knows a secret that could cause her social status - and her as a person - to crumble down. Shortly before finishing his studies, Murakami opened the coffeehouse 'Peter Cat' which was a jazz bar in the evening in Kokubunji, Tokyo with his wife. Or rather they aren't as she refuses to answer the first question, says it is too soon to say on the 2nd and turns the 3rd back on her friend. The first time Pike and Jordan meet, I definitely feel their connection and from then on, I was already rooting for them!With a mother that left years ago and a deadbeat trailer trash father, it's been her and her older sister fending for themselves.

I love when there is a great slow burn and the sexual tension is so freaking high your siting on pins and needles just waiting and waiting for that one moment… I love angst and when two people have undeniable chemistry, even when it’s obvious they shouldn’t. It does take a while to get going though, which ain’t great considering it’s quite short anyway, and I felt that the ending was unsatisfying in its vagueness. Instead, he ran away, barely made an effort with both of them, NEVER said sorry to them, and made himself look like the victim. But as the night goes on her old secrets start to bubble up from the past, and something that happened when she was sixteen becomes impossible to avoid any longer. Overall a fascinating story, one that you'll read in a matter of minutes but will linger for a long time. Forgot to pick her up on her birthday because he was too busy partying and cheating on her for the first time behind her back!

However, if you are interested I recommend hoping on this bad boy and riding it like there is no tomorrow. So, it’s an interesting story, and one that made me realise that Murakami still has much to offer me. Old and new, friends and frenemies, stepdaughters and business partners, ex-wives and ex-husbands congregate, and the glittering facade of her life crumbles in one eventful night.Bueno, además tiene un mensaje acerca de la esencia de cada persona y me gustó la nota de Murakami al final y ya quiero leer a London. I kind of thought it would have more of a love triangle, but Cole was written as a 2D douche, and rarely spent time with Jordan in the book, so it didn't really work like that. As for the characters, while the birthday girl's character is not something that's enticing but the recluse owner's seems pretty captivating, oozing with a certain charm and mystery one can hardly grow accustomed with without being unnerved. In all, the good far outweighed the bad in this book, so that I was able to finish it within a few hours. Rains accompanied by a regular work day is hitherto the story of my life, and that somehow made me relate with the mood, instantly.
