I've been a Batman fan forever and this feels like a story influenced by the master work of Batman Year One.You know, on some level, I was feeling like I’ve got to earn my way into respect in the comic community. Batman meets up with Arnold Wesker, but instead of turning Arnold in Batman leads him to Leslie Thompkins and visits his parents grave before vowing to help Gotham City as Bruce Wayne. In the proud tradition of other more grounded Batman stories, Tomlin's version of the Caped Crusader also has an opposite number working in Gotham City law enforcement, but this time it's not his old pal Jim Gordon. I don’t have credit on that movie, so in some ways, I kind of have to pretend like I’m not a part of that. He has distinct style and there were some nice looking pages in this book but after a while, it feels cheap plus lack of colors makes it even more dull.

Thompkins' ability to push back against Bruce Wayne and his ambition to save his city by dressing as a giant bat is reflective of the sense of realism that Tomlin, Sorrentino and company tried to infuse into the book. The Caped Crusader paraded around his bright city with an upbeat sidekick in Adam West‘s live-action series, engraining himself in the public eye as a campy, lovable do-gooder.Ultimately, it makes for a unique comic that achieves a certain ‘film noir’ aesthetic in both its visuals and its script. All the traditional power brokers of Gotham resent the disruption the Batman has brought to town… and it seems one of them has a plan to neutralize him. Leslie helps stabilize Bruce and gives him an ultimatum: Come talk with her for an hour after every night or she will turn him into the police. This story is about Imposter Batman which is a cool idea but what this story lacked was a sense of mystery. On the one hand, it’s visually cool and exciting to dress up as a bat and go beat people up and at the same time, that’s deranged.
