The motor is controlled by a 40-second digital timer adjustable to the tenth of a second, that allows repeatable dosing. I’ve been testing the Baratza Virtuoso+ for about 3 months, off and on, since receiving our test unit nearly a year ago. If you’re in the market for a high-end coffee grinder, you’ll find none better than the Baratza Virtuoso+, which earned the title of best upgrade pick in our larger tested review of the best coffee grinders. The grind bin lights are a great addition, and if you grind directly into a portafilter using the grind-on-demand button, they really are a serious upgrade to the user experience.

If you’re the kind of person who owns multiple types of coffee gear, you probably know the name Baratza. However this burr grinder improved the flavor even more by removing the slight bitterness caused by fine grounds caused by my old blade grinder. While the process itself is straightforward, we found the lower burr to be quite resistant to being taken out. Yes, it can grind extremely fine but, you’re better off with a grinder dedicated to espresso so that you can fine-tune it to pull the perfect shot. The standard of the coffee and machinery produced from Horsham is second to none and I look forward to making their high-quality coffee a part of my regular coffee routine.

Baratza is very high on their new plain box, 100% compost materials used with their new Vario+ and Vario-W+ grinders, but they’re still using the coloured boxes and plastic ( LDPE 4) for the Virtuoso+; we hope this changes soon.While testing 10 popular grinders, I was blown away by the Baratza Virtuoso+, which I believe to be the best high-end option on the market. Another important difference between the Baratza Virtuoso+ vs the Baratza Encore is that the Virtuoso Plus grinds coffee at a faster speed.
