A Hat Full of Sky - Sir Terry Pratchett

In the middle ages red hot pokers were a popular method of torture; heated branding irons were passed back and forth in front of a person's eyes until the victims were blinded by the scorching heat. First published in 2004, it is set two years after The Wee Free Men, and features an 11-year old Tiffany Aching. She manages to retain some control over herself, but was weakening before the Feegles came to her aid. Other issues include the responsibility of the strong for the weak and infirm, and susceptibility to dominant peers. Only it’s as though you always get in ten minutes after the big picture has started, and no-one will tell you the plot, so you have to work it out all yourself from the clues. The line used by Rob Anybody was used in the British reality TV show Geordie Shore and has now evidently led to a doner kebab scented perfume. Vagabonds, gypsies and brawlers were branded ('V' for the first two, "F" for fighter for the last one). It is clear that this performance is the highlight of the Witch Trials but it is so hard for the other witches to describe and define what exactly has taken place, if anything has really happened, and neither Granny or Tiffany will explain.

Tiffany is on the brink of adolescence and is becoming "more conscious of image" of both herself and the world. You test people all the time, test, test, test, but you really want them to be clever enough to beat you.The difference between the two ways of seeing is the difference between walking with and without a camera. This particular whiskey's name has an added play on words because 'macabre' means "gruesome" and is associated with the horror of death, murder and decay. It was used in reference to a lower class of married woman (particularly an older one, whereas Mistress would be used for a higher class woman. Exact Words: Miss Level, having trouble controlling her second self when it no longer has a body attached to it, complains that it's as impossible as not picturing a pink rhinoceros when someone's mentioned one.

They were treated like royalty – not the sort who get dragged off to be beheaded or have something nasty done with a red-hot poker, but the other sort, when people walk away dazed, saying, ‘She actually said hello to me, very graciously!Character Filibuster: Granny Weatherwax's rant about how "the soul and center" of witchcraft is "helpin' people when life is on the edge". Upon arrival, Tiffany senses the hiver moving in on her and turns to Granny Weatherwax only to find that she is not there. Shrimp features prominently in Foul Old Ron's favourite expression "millenium hand and shrimp' throughout the Discworld series. Pictorial bookplate of noted zoologist and marine biologist James Glen Mead mounted to front pastedown, with his ink signature to upper front endpaper.

It is labelled a "Story of Discworld" to indicate its status as children's or young adult fiction, unlike most of the books in the Discworld series. This resonates with the line from the Monty Python sketch Nudge, nudge, wink, wink; "I bet she does, I bet she does".
