About this deal

Super Mario 3D All-Stars was developed and published by Nintendo to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. (1985). [16] According to Eurogamer, Nintendo referred to the compilation as Super Mario All-Stars 2 internally. [17] Nintendo's goal was to retain the included games' "original design and spirit" with updates to the resolutions and controls. According to Kenta Motokura, the project's producer, the developers interviewed the games' original staff to learn of each's importance. [16] The Super Mario Sunshine port in the collection uses GameCube emulation technology developed by Nintendo European Research & Development (NERD), who further collaborated with the 3D All-Stars development team on several new features for the game and upgraded its full motion videos to HD using their own deep learning engine. NERD also assisted with the Super Mario Galaxy port by providing graphics and audio emulation technologies. [18] We expect it may be part of some master plan (or remaster plan) for these games, possibly with the older titles coming as free as part of Nintendo Switch Online when the service starts adding Nintendo 64 games to its emulator.

That’s right, you cannot use the controller this game was originally designed for DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE SWITCH SPECIFICALLY ALLOWS YOU TO CONNECT ONE USING AN ADAPTER. What a lost opportunity! Again, this could have been very easily remedied by allowing you to remap this function to a different button that is available on the GameCube controller, or else by simply allowing for a “classic controls” option. The limited release schedule – pulling physical and digital editions from sale in March 2021 – feels needlessly restrictive, too. The result is a shakily-assembled trilogy that not everyone will be able to try out for themselves, particularly if they're waiting until the Switch becomes more affordable.

"Sources: Nintendo Switch 2020 line-up dominated by Mario games old and new". Eurogamer. Archived from the original on September 15, 2020 . Retrieved March 31, 2020. Overall, it's safe to say that Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a compilation worth its weight in gold. Not only have the games stood the test of time, they remain some of the best 3D platformers of the late '90s to early 2000s in existence. Between its visual resolution upgrades to the sheer flexibility of ways to play, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is the triple threat of the Nintendo Switch games' library – well, until 31st March." Three of the most popular Super Mario games ever finally make their way to Nintendo Switch with Super Mario 3D All-Stars - warts and all." In addition to the higher-definition HUD textures present in all three games, Super Mario Sunshine has also received a small selection of higher-definition textures within the game, mainly the text.

Kirstin Swalley (September 20, 2020). "Review: Super Mario 3D All-Stars". Hardcore Gamer. Archived from the original on September 20, 2020 . Retrieved September 23, 2020.The line we’re fed in the 3D All-Star’s announcement, though –“graphics updated to HD resolution and optimised for Nintendo Switch”– feels more true for the former point than the latter. It's a me, your childhood snd_test (Unknown, SNES) • Super Mario 128 (2000, GCN) • New Super Mario Bros. Mii (2011, Wii U) • Mario vs. Donkey Kong Wii U demo (2014, Wii U) The omission of Galaxy 2 and 3D Land also bother me. If one or both of those games were included, this would be an absolute no-brainer. Nintendo took six years after the massive success of Super Mario 64 to release another 3D Mario game. What we got was one of the worst Mario games ever made: Super Mario Sunshine.
