About this deal

One of the most affordable rowers on this list, the JLL R200 is still more than up to the task of improving your fitness levels if you're a rowing newbie. Given its price, it's an ideal choice for beginners looking to try out rowing without splurging on a fancy, wallet-busting option (at least at first). Our home has uneven Victorian floors that tend to sag in the middle of the room so the main challenge is finding a level spot to position the rower in. Once you’ve got it on a level bit of floor, the rowing experience is fine, although I’m not sure it would be comfortable to use for long periods of time. Is the JLL R200 Rowing Machine Worth It? Overall the JLL R200 rowing machine is a fantastic entry-level machine. If you’re looking to get into shape or want an easy way to add some cardio into your training then this could be the machine for you. The LCD is a little on the small side which does make it difficult to read when rowing full tilt but it is well positioned and displays well even in brightly lit spaces. This is a minor gripe of ours and certainly isn’t a deal breaker. Magnetic Resistance is often overlooked, due to it not offering the most immersive experience. It’s a physical magnet which is situated close to the flywheel, determining the intensity of the workout.

We found that using a folded towel on top of the seat gave just enough padding to resolve this issue completely. Features The machine isn’t just geared solely to competitive rowers, though. It has simple adjustability that lets you switch resistance from a rowing simulation to a high-resistance power development setting. The SkillRow offers interactive coaching for rowing technique, too, because even the best machine is only as good as the user’s ability to use proper technique and maximise the workout. No manufacturer's warranty covers failure of a treadmill if caused by unreasonable or abusive use or if the customer alters the treadmill in any way or if the customer fails to provide reasonable & necessary care/maintenance. Exercise Bikes/ Cross Trainers: The R200 measures up at 180cm in total length when unfolded and has a width of 52cm. The height of this rower is 49cm unfolded and 127cm when folded, but the length reduces down to just 71cm when folded which means it can be stood up in a corner of a room and take up very little floor space. There are also some transport wheels which make it very easy to move the JLL R200 from one place to another.Unlike a lot of magnetic rowers, the rowing motion is quite smooth and the resistance responsive. This smooth rowing experience is due to the direct belt-driven system that JLL has incorporated into this machine.

When it comes to workouts that last 20 minutes or more we have to say the JLL R200 stood up to the test well. It was not uncomfortable to use for that period of time and even longer sessions of 30-45 minutes were more than do-able. It really does provide a high intensity and energy sapping workout that will have you burning calories as efficiently as any other home workout machine. Disappointingly, there’s nowhere to put a phone or tablet – not ideal if you wanted to follow a live class or pre-recorded rowing workout. You’ll need to set up a device on a chair in front of you or move the rower to face your TV. The ExperienceThe R200 is direct belt driven so it provides a quiet and smooth workout to replicate the simulation of The design makes it comfortable to use, with a seven-point adjustable foothold to allow you to find the right position for your body, a padded seat, adjustable screen angle and ergonomic handlebars that allow you to maintain a good grip. As far as the resistance is concerned, this machine uses dynamic air resistance, simulating a real water rowing situation by increasing the resistance as you row, while a nine-point damper means resistance can be adjusted by altering the amount of air flowing through the flywheel. The rail of the machine is definitely not the longest and some users (6’+) may struggle to use the machine comfortably. One problem taller users complain of is that they have to raise the handles during the recovery phase to avoid hitting their knees. This can make for a less-than-ideal rowing motion. The R200 is belt-driven and this works particularly well on this model thanks to the recent upgrade. The belt system is quiet and means you won’t upset everyone in your house or the neighbours each time you work out. The rowing machine itself uses magnetic resistance, which doesn’t offer the most realistic rowing feel, though it provides enough challenge for even fairly advanced rowers. But more importantly, the magnetic resistance system is quiet, which can’t be said for the fan-operated opposition.

As with most magnetic rowers, the JLL R200 is very quiet. This is great if noise levels are a concern for you whilst at home. This is usually the case when you don’t want to disturb other members of your household but also some users just don’t like the constant ‘whooshing’ sound made by air rowers. With Bluetooth and ANT+ compatibility, the SkillRow can link up to a smartphone app and any third-party heart-rate monitors. The accompanying SkillRow app offers long-term form analysis, as well as multi-player interactivity and virtual race simulation. Like interactive spin classes, users can access structured group sessions, too. There are four different types of rowing machine, using different types of resistance, but each has its pros and cons: If you refuse the delivery for any other reason than the goods being damaged in transit, you are liable for all outbound and return freight charges. If any of the larger products will not fit through doors or stairwells, and delivery is refused or returned, you will be responsible for all outbound and return freight costs.

What's the best rowing machine in 2023?

Rowing machines are excellent for cardio workouts that utilise the upper and lower body and the JLL R200 rowing machine is no exception. Undertaking a 30 day review of the R200 meant that we could really get to grips with it and push ourselves and the machine to its full as well as finding out if it had any funny little quirks that might become annoying over time. Outside of device/app shenanigans, the Blade is a solid entry-level rowing machine in its own right, though more experienced users might be left wanting for more resistance levels. With a weight limit of 100kg, it should cater to most people's needs, though larger-framed users might want to go for something a little larger and heftier for additional peace of mind. Its predominantly plastic build won't win any design accolades, but once you remember the affordable price tag, it's hard to be too harsh when it comes to the build quality. If you’ve found yourself easily bored by analogue kit, purchasing something that offers this connectivity could be key. From “gamifying” the workout experience, to offering professional instructor-led classes, these connected offerings can not only help you improve your rowing form and help you get fit, but they also increase the shelf life of that very expensive investment you’ve just made. I’d recommend this machine for more slow-duration and steady-stated cardio rather than more intense HIIT workouts. The resistance is great compared to other magnetic rowers and even better when you consider the price but it cannot compete with the higher-end air rowers when performing more intense bouts of exercise.
