It starts with a solid and straightforward premise. Post-apocalyptic frozen world, some people have special powers called blessings, there's allegedly a big bad behind it all, and people are going crazy under these extreme conditions. Then comes a group of people trying to rebuild Fire Punch is first alluded to in chapter 20, when Agni starts seeing visions of himself on his way to kill Doma. Agni and Luna leave to find shelter, and find an abandoned salt mine, where they loot some clothes. The pair are apprehended by Lean, a member of a small group of survivors from Doma's group of children, including Doma's pregnant daughter, Ranu. Agni and Luna stay there for a decade, while Agni steadily recovers his regenerative abilities. As Agni only introduces himself as 'brother', none of the others know he is the 'Fire Punch' responsible for Doma's death. During this time, Agni and Luna begin a sexual relationship. The difficult part for me with respect to the nihilism, and gradual recision of Agni’s character was that, I really enjoy stories with strong protagonists, one’s that I can identify with, or at least, can identify with their motives and reasons for being. Here, while the story is fantastical and, one can argue, damn near impossible to relate to much of anything going on, for much of the later story I couldn’t fathom, or even remotely understand, what the characters were doing. Or perhaps worse, how they got to thinking what they did and acting how they did with respect to the story prior, and that’s Fujimoto’s fault for the lightening fast pacing. For the majority of the series, his entire body is on fire, save for his mouth and the left side of his face, with his right eye constantly being exposed due to his eyelid always getting seared off. Because of the nature of Doma's blessing, Agni is unable to wear regular clothes, always walking around naked with the flames covering his privates while the rest of his body appears charred and raw.
