The first inhabitants of Dawlish were fisherman and salt makers. This industry continued through the Roman occupation, and the town also benefited from farming in the surrounding countryside. It was the railway that transformed the town, allowing many more visitors to enjoy its classic Regency and early Victorian styles. To ensure a safe and secure environment for our youngest explorers we limit the age of our child visitors to a maximum of 7 years old. The birthday child can bring two adults and each birthday guest can bring one adult, up to the maximum capacity. We like to do things differently here at Higher Eggbeer, so instead of hiring the venue for just one day, you’ll have exclusive use of the entire venue, farmhouse and grounds for two/three days, to use as your please. If you love to cycle - you will love the cycling routes in and around Dawlish. The Exe Estuary Trail offers off road cycling for 16miles from Dawlish Warren to Exmouth, along some of the most stunning coastal scenery.

We are licensed for civil ceremonies, with a choice of stunning options both inside and out and our Party Barn offers a setting like no other for your wedding breakfast and evening celebrations.

Inspiration

If you would like to add a little extra to your party for the grown-ups, add on one of our two party extras when booking. We will reserve tables in our cafe for you to relax at whilst the children play in the town, here we will provide two hot drinks* for the party planners and unlimited squash for the children. Children will enjoy 90 minutes of play in Bear Town followed by 30 minutes in their private party room*, you can choose from the Disco Cave or Play Den. Time splits can be flexible. For a Mini Party, food will be served at your reserved table in the cafe after 90 minutes play. The South Devon Railway Line runs through Dawlish, this is considered one of the most scenic railway lines in Britain, it runs along the coast from Exeter to Newton Abbot providing wonderful views along the Exe Estuary and out to sea. The line runs along the coast under the distinct red brown cliffs and through series of dramatic tunnels, literally a few metres from the shoreline. Access to the Disco Cave with amazing disco lights and groovy tunes. As well as the Obie room, offering a variety of exciting interactive games!

There are also plenty of coastal walks from Dawlish along the South West Coast Path - you can either head left to Dawlish Warren and Exmouth, or right to Teignmouth and Torbay.
