Where the lifesaving capacity of the boat has been voluntarily reduced to a lower number of persons than that for which it was originally certified the full load weight may be calculated based on the lower number of persons, provided that the revised carrying capacity is marked on the boat and used on the passenger or safety equipment certificate. As a supplement to their initial shore side training, on board training will familiarise crew members with the ship systems and the associated procedures for use, operation and drills. On these occasions, the objective is to develop appropriate crew competencies, enabling effective and safe utilisation of the equipment required by the Regulations. The time limits set out in Regulations for ship abandonment should be considered as a secondary objective when conducting drills.
