About this deal

I've owned several of these cheap Superlux headphone models. Some of them have sounded very impressive for the price. These ones... not so much. Perhaps I just prefer differently voiced headphones but these ones seemed a bit too stiff and sterile sounding to me, and still not neutral/detailed enough for mixing (which to be fair would be too much to ask at this price). I've been an AKG fanboy since the early 90s when I got AKG K240Ms (the original 600ohm version.) I upgraded to 240DF at some point and used those for 15 years or so until they broke.

Superlux HD668B: Budget-Friendly Studio Samson SR850 vs. Superlux HD668B: Budget-Friendly Studio

Both will be okay with Benjie S5 mp3 player right? which is noted to have Headphone output: 16-128Ω For me personally that's not a problem, as I 'm not a fan of closed designs, due to their sound qualities and signature. Your millage may vary. That definitely looks like a 668B. I wouldn’t be surprised if it sounds the same with the HD668B (or more or less similar). I don’t think Samson as a company manufactures their own headphone line up, so Superlux probably OEMs for them. Thanks for the comments. I do agree with a lot of the things that you said, and in some areas you described the HD668B better than what Dhani (the author) did. This is why it's good to have informative comments such as yours, because sometimes our writing can be fairly limited, and another point of view will give a better description. While we had no trouble pointing out that Samson’s SR850 headphones are better in this comparison, Superlux HD668B are not to be overlooked. After all, HD668B are a great deal for the price as well and they’re a viable choice if you’re looking for a cheaper solution for your home studio. i’m planning to get these headphones but i’m a bit afraid after the Porta Pro’s colored sound i might find these a little flat.. *i love the PP’s, but they are extremely fragile and doesn’t last long. 🙁 can somebody tell me how these would sound compared to the PP’s? First off, it is very easy to take apart the 668B. The logo caps on each ear piece pop off with a sharp knife blade and the remaining disassembly is simple. Too much to go into detail here, so please PM me for more info. I am sorry for not taking pics along the way! Interesting. Assuming that without the volume control issue, which one have the sound signature that can complement the headphone?

Superlux HD668B Review (headphone) | Audio Science Review

Well this headphones were tested through a Focusrite Solo and from my Laptop's audio card. The sound was great on both of them, being the Focusrite sound slightly better. The bass was a little off in the beginning but after 30 hours of burn-in, the bass was punchy and accurate, the highs also became much more realistic and now they are not so annoying and keep getting better everyday. While I'm producing I can get the subtle differences in the mixing, some things that I can't get with more expensive headphones. This is not a headphone for big heads, my brother and father complain about the tightness, for me it is a perfect fit. To put it simply, SR850 headphones are one of the best choices for their price level. If you feel like keeping the price modest and yet getting a great sound and ergonomic qualities, barely any headphones out there can compare with SR850. Price & Value For Money: Superlux HD668B The A-10 and the E-11 are roughly similar, but the A-10 would be a better fit. It’s smoother and has a fuller midrange.

V shaped sound signature but sounds well balanced with bass notes not bleeding into other frequencies. Samson’s SR850 are not just light (276 grams), but they keep things pretty sturdy. This is followed by a fairly tight construction, keeping things very stable, even in the longer run. If only I could hear the difference between 681/668. If I would go for 681, I would take the original version as you recommended.
