I had a 1/2" plywood strip which had a factory edge to it. I glued and stapled the strip to 1/8" MDF. I then clamped it. While you’re at it, carefully transfer the spline and step dadoes onto the second part’s shapes so you can use them as references for setting up the routing cuts (see Figure 5). All of the exposed screw heads need to be hidden under wood plugs, so make those next at the drill press with a plug cutter. Make the wood plugs from a piece of scrap left over from your project wood. For safety, hold the workpiece against a clamped fence to immobilize it when cutting the plugs. Repeat this process to rout dadoes for the first and third steps in the upper and lower side pieces. It helps to mark the slot-cutting jig with a reference line to show you where to stop each of these two dado cuts, since the router will mostly cover up the cutting path during routing. Cut the step dadoes 1/4-in. deep to match the spline dado. Fortunately for me, my mom-in-law asked if I could make a step ladder for her. I told her that I don't think I could make a strong step ladder as I did not know how. This chair which I saw on instructables kept flashing in my mind and as I had the balance plywood left from another of her projects ( which is still incomplete!) , I thought I'll use it, and if it comes right, I'll surprise her with it!

Now that you have cut your side panels it's time to spit it up. Place the guide at the 70 degree angle line and cut. As you have used screws to clamp you needn't worry about sections coming apart. Build the lower framework by bringing the lower sides together with the first step, using glue and countersunk 1-1/2-in. screws to secure the parts. Add the second step, gluing and screwing it down to the top of the lower assembly (see Figure 14). Then fit the stretcher into place between the sides and attach it with more screws. Figure 14: Attach the first and second steps to the lower side pieces to build this subassembly. A large clamp with deep jaws can help hold the second step in place while driving the counterbored screws.

Thanks for the plans. Love them as they are straight forward and easy to follow. I’m in Australia but don’t follow the sizes. My daughter has asked me to make the chair.Install the wood plugs with glue, and trim them flush with a flush-cut saw, a chisel or an oscillating tool after the glue dries. Sand the plugs smooth (see Figure 15). Figure 15: Install tapered wood plugs with glue to cover all of the screw heads, saw them flush and sand the surfaces smooth. Use scrap wood left over from the project to create plugs that blend into the surrounding wood. If you like you can simply buy some hooks and fix it. but I felt this was much more sturdy and strong. I used some slats for this. I drew the pattern on a graph sheet to 1" scale and placed it on the plywood I had. I clamped and slightly more than the required length. I then placed the rectangle again on the plywood and cut an exact copy. Now clamp both rectangles together and draw the pattern on to the board. I drilled through sections which would not be cut and screwed nails in to clamp the wood.
