This book is a wonderful and articulate summary of many writings and views on the conundrum of the privileged mother who knows she cannot have it all, if "ït all" includes being as present a mother and wife as she feels she needs to be.

I absolutely loved how likable and relatable both Thomas and Maura’s characters were. Maura’s inner dialogue had me laughing and also portrayed such accuracy for dating in the mid twenties- slightly awkward and sarcastic demeanor.It is heart wrenching to see their marriage deteriorate under the burden of grief, sorrow and guilt. They can't seem to hang on to each other and draw strength from their marriage and their experience of being Darla's parents. In The In-Between, Vlahos recounts the most impactful experiences she’s had with the people she’s worked with—from the woman who never once questioned her faith until she was close to death, to the older man seeing visions of his late daughter, to the young patient who laments that she spent too much of her short life worrying about what others thought of her—while also sharing her own fascinating journey. But this book is different - it’s genuinely funny (which is such a rarity) but it also has so much heart to it. You find yourself wanting so much happiness for both characters & you believe they DESERVE this happiness.

These sections are reminiscent of Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones in which the young victim speaks from beyond the grave. I’m a hardcore non-fiction reader - this was not on my reading list. I stumbled upon this, and read it cover to cover in an entire sitting. I love audio books, so actually reading this, I can’t emphasize this enough: It’s beautiful, a story and journey that kept me curious and wanting more. So, I have a soft spot for any story that uses ghosts/spirits in an interesting way, and Somewhere In Between scratches that itch. This book is so fun, such a fresh voice in romance! Suzanne Glidewell's debut is a sweet romance with themes of home and self-discovery set in Seattle. As someone who recently moved to WA, I enjoyed the references to Seattle-specific beers and neighborhoods that I have been in the process of exploring. Her characters are incredibly easy to root for, both multi-dimensional and loveable.
