About this deal

In short, we believe that this is the world's best way to test an SSDs gaming prowess and accurately compare it against competing SSDs. The 3DMark SSD Gaming Test measures and scores the following:

But not everyone wants to pay for these ultimate performers, and by turning down the flame a little, some makers are offering serviceable solutions that more can afford. Typically SLC cache use of space takes three times that of regular storage, so if you have 300GB of space left, the SLC cache will work well until you have written 100GB. Once the write operation is complete, the cache written space is converted into regular use, and the potential cache space is recovered. In short, this may be the cheapest Gen 4 branded drive by some margin. However, I need to point out that some of the competitor devices support hardware encryption and have greater sustained performance for those that write large volumes of data. Once again, a roughly 10% reduction in performance from 1TB to 2TB. But who cares? Look at where it lands on our chart. This is performance that matters. Final Thoughts Depending on how you intend to use an SSDs, endurance is either something you are concerned about or not. For those that hammer their drive relentlessly, the SN770 is an average performer in terms of how much writing it can handle. Ron Burke is the Editor in Chief for Gaming Trend. Currently living in Fort Worth, Texas, Ron is an old-school gamer who enjoys CRPGs, action/adventure, platformers, music games, and has recently gotten into tabletop gaming. The SN770 isn’t the first NVMe drive I’ve seen with this configuration from Western Digital. It previously used this approach on the

When Western Digital sent my review sample, it was specifically mentioned not to test it in a PS5, and while it might work in some way, this isn’t something I’d recommend you do.My advice is unchanged on this subject, in that if TBW (Total Bytes Written) is potentially an issue for you, then buy the largest capacity drives to better distribute the workload between NAND cells. Bought this as my main drive for gaming. It's running at 3700mb/s read and 3400mb/s write. I think this is because my laptop only has gen3 ports instead of the newer gen4. Even at gen3 the speed is blazing fast. Recommended. Popular Now: Nintendo 64 classic Perfect Dark ported to PC, playable in 4K 60 FPS with keyboard and mouse

Three versions of the drive are available, a 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB model, with some differences that might not be immediately apparent. All three models carry a 5 year warranty, which is fantastic, but the 500GB model comes in at 5000 MB/s read, and 4000MB/s write speeds. The 1TB hits at 5150 and 4900, respectively, and the 2TB model just slightly less than that at 5150 MB/s read and 4840 MB/s write. All relatively close, right? Looking a layer deeper, their IOPs are very different. So what’s an IOP?

An important point on this subject is that significant wear only occurs when random writes happen, with much less with sequential and reading generally. Therefore, if you write video files as an example, that won’t impart the same amount of wear to NAND cells as random writes of small files. IOMeter is a well-respected industry standard benchmark. However, despite our results with IOMeter scaling as expected, it is debatable as to whether or not certain access patterns actually provide a valid example of real-world performance. The access patterns we tested may not reflect your particular workloads, for example. That said, we do think IOMeter is a reliable gauge for relative throughput, latency, and bandwidth with a given storage solution. In addition, there are certain highly-strenuous workloads you can place on a drive with IOMeter, that you can't with most other storage benchmark tools.
