About this deal

What I loved about Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas was that it had a very different take on teenage romance. It was dark and smutty, everything I love in a romance story. The story of Pun 57 follows Misha Lare and Ryen Trevarrow. The two of them reside a mere town away, though they have yet to have met each other. As it so happened, when they were both in their fifth grade, they were paired up by manner of a misunderstanding – always a healthy way to begin a friendship. Bit of a Mess This doesn’t sound so bad until Amelia discovers the man is her ex, Justin. On top of this, he still hadn’t gotten over how she broke his heart when they were teenagers. Masen and Ryen’s bond deepens, with them sharing intimate moments. At school, Masen’s rebellious nature is evident, and he’s called to the principal’s office, though he dismisses the summons. Ryen is concerned about Masen’s well-being and is always on the lookout for him. She’s also aware of the threats from Trey and is wary of the dangers he poses. Misha and Ryen have been pen-pal friends for 7 years. They’d never met and promised to never meet not to ruin their relationship. However, they live only 50km apart, in small towns, and Misha is part of a band, that promotes an event in a place close to Ryen’s town. To his surprise, she’s there. She doesn’t recognize him but he does. He doesn’t say anything, though.

You have every right to be angry. I’m incredibly sorry that I couldn’t get a handle on how to fix the problems, but I really did try, and I will try again. In time. I haven’t given up. I know the story is there. Source: A public Goodreads’post from the author. ( link) [Note: I do not own this excerpt or anything related to this book. All rights are reserved to the author and other rightful owners.] But I keep my arms crossed and narrow my eyes on her. She’s seriously going to keep up with this charade? Fat tears spill over, and I feel a weight on my shoulders. It’s not Trey. It’s not Lyla. It’s me. I don’t know who I’m supposed to be.The rest of the school day passes mercilessly slow as I brave lunch and every single class, feeling like another shoe is going to drop at any second. But as soon as the final bell rings, I drop off my Dane sweeps in, stopping her, and turns to me, scolding under his breath, “Dude, why are you looking at her like she slapped your grandma? Damn.” I have heard so many good things about this book. And you are totally right about Bully! I ate that shit up, too! I just don’t want to get into this book until I am in the right mood for angst. Great review!

Okay, sorry. I just had a Facebook break, so I feel better now. Not sure when I turned into such an idiot, but I’m glad you put up with it. Masen is called to the principal’s office, fearing he’s been discovered. However, the principal, who is also Trey’s stepmother, just wants to get to know him better. She offers support and subtly warns him about Trey. Punk 57 is absolutely not appropriate, actually, the only good part is the 18+ scenes. Is Punk 57 a bully romance? Punk 57 is inappropriate because it’s full of spice, and is also a terrible book. And no, no 15-year-old should read this. How long does it take to read Punk 57?Disgusting. Wrong. The high school drama is so ridiculous. They’re deciding who they’re going to prom with. And here I thought they would be on a world tour with a band. No, they have to sit their exams still and ask mommy and daddy for money to go to the cinema on the weekend. We come to learn that Ryen hadn’t been quite forthright and honest about her position at school. The person that was writing to Misha seemed so genuine about the struggles and troubles that she faced each day. The story continues with Masen’s internal struggle about revealing his true identity to Ryen. He’s torn between confessing and fearing that she’ll hate him once she discovers the truth. He sneaks into her house early in the morning, contemplating how to tell her. When she meets the confident athlete Garrett, he proposes a deal she can’t ignore. If Hannah helps Garret improve his grades, he will help her break out of her shell and get her crush’s attention.

I know it’s hard to write female characters. Usually, the girls are judged harshly. If they’re weak, they’re the weak princess waiting for her prince to save her, a bad-developed character. If they’re too strong, they’re unrealistic, a tomboy that hates feminine stuff and thinks tears are bad. I GET IT. But in this case, there’s nothing that helps Ryen’s case. She’s one of those shallow popular girl stereotypes that we love to hate. And instead of breaking this stereotype, she just makes it worse! She sometimes says “I know I shouldn’t be like this but I don’t like to not fit in.” We have a small pinch of hope that she’ll get some self-reflection but she just shrugs it off and keeps being terrible. We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it? Penelope Douglas is a New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Their books have been translated into nineteen languages and include The Fall Away Series, The Devil’s Night Series, and the stand-alones, Misconduct, Punk 57, Birthday Girl, Credence, and Tryst Six Venom. Please look for The Hellbent Series, coming next.

The Official Punk 57 Summary:

Or…” she goes on, sounding annoyed that I haven’t responded. “I need a picture of a picture of a picture. Whatever that means.” What makes The Deal the perfect read for after Punk 57 is that it also has this enemies to lovers theme where it starts off as playful hate and then turns into something passionate and smutty.
