The overall look of an architect lamp also sets it apart from others. While they all feature that long arm, they tend to be built more for function than looks. You usually won’t find them as decorative as other lamp types. Instead, they may be a simple, solid color. If you want to upgrade your miniature painting, the first place I suggest people to start is by getting a good LED desk lamp. Improving your light for painting miniatures and decreasing shadows will have a dramatic effect on how well you can paint but also how enjoyable it is to paint miniatures. Just getting a decent LED desk lamp will really help you out a lot.

In short, this is the desk lamp I would recommend you get if you do not currently have a decent desk lamp. I can already tell that the Neatfi light will last me years and years from its mostly metal construction. The LEDs are rated for up to 100,000 hours of use, and will never get hot. The 3-yr warranty is a nice touch but I doubt will be needed.Some architect lamps let you adjust the amount of light they put out. If you prefer different levels for different tasks, look for one with a dimmable feature. Some let you choose between three or four different light settings. If you go with LED you will get all that and you will also not have bulbs that produce heat (not great when you want to thin that paint!). Thank the maker for LED light. The Lightcraft Pro LED side by side with a lamp that produces a too warm and yellow tinge for painting miniatures and warhammer I will note that the lamp stays where I put it. There is no slop in the pivots or the LED housing. If I tilt the lamp sideways at an angle, it stays there. No problem.

The width of the lamp is useful for providing useful, high contrast on your working surface. Contrast often suffers when a light is too bright and focused in one spot. The diffuse nature of the Neatfi light source helps maintain contrast. Recommended lights for painting accurately have a color temperaturethat falls within the daylight range (5000 – 6500K or Kelvin) and provides sufficient diffuse illumination to prevent eye strain, e.g., squinting, and hard-shadowing.

The flexible swing-arm of the Neatfi lamp help keep the light stay over (or under) where I need it. Sometimes you may need to tilt the light to see the underside of a model. The lamp can do that and stay positioned while you work. The metal arm and wide shade combine to spread that diffuse light over a wide area. This lamp is the only lamp seriously designed for Miniature Painting and hobbies like it. And it shows.

The LEDs are housed in a lamp that is about 23″ wide. The swing arm has a total length of 32″, which is adjustable at 3 pivot points. The short version is: I like the lamp, hate the foot and hate the electronic elements (which makes me nervous of long term durability). Let us look a bit at what a good lamp for painting minis actually needs to do. 1. The colour of the white light needs to show the actual colours of the model (it should throw a white light in the Kelvin 5000 range with good CRI) The BenQ e-Reading Lamp is a weird one. I like it for a lot of things, but have ended up not using it much for miniatures. I simply have better options on hand. The BenQ lamp Preferably you want no shadows from outside objects on your model while painting. To reduce this you will needbig coverage of bright light and getting something that sits above your paint station instead of being on the side of it (so you avoid casting shadows on the mini with your hands, brush and so on).Another important feature of architect lamps is their burning time. While all lamps are built to burn for hours, architect lamps were traditionally built with the understanding that they need to be able to comfortably burn for hours at a time. For that reason, you’ll find the materials are more durable than you might typically find with a lamp. There are also other similar lamps, e.g., the Model Craft Professional Task Lamp, the Lighcraft Pro LED lamp, which all review just as highly and have the same features, power output, and color as the Neatfi XL task lamp. The Neatfi Task Lamp lights up my entire hobby space in a bright, diffuse white light. It’s quite useful! Easy. The lamp comes in two parts. The first part is the clamping mechanism, which uses a screw-in clamp for the side of a tabletop or desk. The second part is the lamp assembly. The swing arm has springs in it to keep the lamp’s position. There is a pivot insert that goes into the clamp (after it has been attached to your desk).

Another great mobile lamp is the OttLite LED Mobile Task Lamp, which can be battery powered. if you go to conventions for painting miniatures, that might be a better option. Cord length comes into play. Measure from the power outlet to the desk or table to find a lamp with a cord length that will easily reach. You can easily find an architect lamp with simple assembly. In most cases, you’ll merely need to attach the head and clamp, then insert a lightbulb. The adjustable nature of architect lamps makes them popular for a wide range of household uses. You can clamp an architect lamp onto any type of surface with an edge, then direct the light where you need it to go. If you have a sewing room or craft table, for instance, you may like the fact that you can move the light around as necessary. While I won’t say that the lamp has a long arm, the reach of the metal swing arm is long enough to cast useful light across your entire desk. The best part about this lamp, in my opinion, is that it is so simple to use and have around when you need it. Will the lamp last me a long time? Value?

I want to cut right to the chase, I think the Redgrass R9 Desk Lamp is the best lamp for miniatures you can get right now for miniature painting. A few things make this outstanding: 1. It produces bright natural light over a broad area and the light is very flexible It is flexible enough to be where you want it to be, so the light can come from above instead of from the side.
