Although it looks great, we tested it with various food items and drinks on a long journey. The drinks it was great, we could unzip, grab a drink and it was cold and refreshing. The same could not be the same for the food, our food spoiled after a long 8 hour drive, we could have eaten and drank before this but it was a test to see how it would do and if it was left all day. When looking for the best electric cool box, consider the size and capacity that suits your needs. Think about how much food and drink you need to store and the available space in your car or camping area. Electric cool boxes come in various sizes and capacities, so choose one that accommodates your needs. For example, a smaller cool box is perfect for day trips, while a larger one is more suitable for weekend getaways or longer trips. Cooling Performance From the minute we used the well weighted, spring-loaded top release, it was clear this was a high-quality product. The downside was the heavy weight – 10kg – but it featured twin side handles and wheels to help cope. The cool box’s cooling performance exceeded my expectations. Even though it is not a full fridge replacement, it managed to keep my food and drinks chilled at 18°C below the ambient temperature. This was more than enough to ensure that everything stayed cold and fresh during our trip.

Choose a cool box with robust and well-insulated construction, as this will not only ensure durability but also enhance the box’s cooling performance. Additional Features Very happy with my choice of the W35, very quiet even with the fan speed turned up. Plenty of space inside, the dividers work well.

If you are after a larger car fridge for your vehicle but don’t want to go too big and/or break the bank, this could be one for you. It can fit a reasonable amount of drink bottles and chills to 18c below ambient temperature while only weighing a bit over 3 kilos. Each box was run at maximum power for two hours. We logged temperatures at the start and finish, and compared both with the ambient level. We also rated practicality, ease of use, cooling control, plus wheels, cable storage, heat and mains options. Practicality was tested by loading them with a selection of picnic gear: sandwich boxes, 1.5-litre drinks bottles, 330ml cans and the like. We balanced all against the box capacity and online prices. VerdictThis is an 8L capacity electric cool box by Mobicool, unlike the cool bag which we have also reviewed, this cool box seems to actually keep the food and drink inside it cold. It is of a sturdy and well built build and has been made specifically for travelling in your car. Could this be the best electric car fridge and cool box available? Where this electric car fridge differs is that it cools down the internal space to 15c below that of its surrounding ambient temperature. Unlike others we have looked at, this one will take the food and cool it own to 3c inside the cool box if the outside air temperature is 18c. Others promise temperatures of 8c, 12c, lower etc but this one runs from the ambient outside temperature and cools down that. This probably makes it easier to keep cool as if it was hot outside it doesn’t have to work extra hard to get it down to a certain temp, but this does mean if it was 25c outside, it will only get the box down to 10c, which will still keep food fresh. A box with a heating option is twice as useful since it can keep takeaways up to temperature. And a box that can run on mains power as well as 12V is even more versatile, especially because it can be pre-cooled before you hit the road. Hardwearing outer fabric – a durable jacquard polyester able to withstand wear and tear, yet soft enough to let this cool bag fold down for neat storage in your car boot. Excellent compact cooling of prechilled food or drinks, with a useful heat facility, ideal for keeping takeaways piping hot!
