Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. This includes medicines you buy without a prescription, including herbal medicines. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects get serious or lasts longer than a few days. Also tell them if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet

The other medicine is called simethicone. It belongs to a group of medicines called anti-foaming agents. You are allergic (hypersensitive) to dried aluminium hydroxide gel, magnesium hydroxide, simeticone or any of the other ingredients in Maalox Plus (listed in section 6).

If your symptoms don't go away or get worse despite taking this medicine you should consult your doctor or pharmacist. When prescribed by a doctor it may also be used for lowering the amount of acid in your stomach or gut (intestine) when you have an ulcer Only give them one 5ml spoonful, up to three times a day, between 20 minutes to one hour after a meal.

Remember to take any medicine that is left with you so that the doctor knows what you have taken.you have needed to use heartburn or indigestion remedies continuously for two or more weeks to control your symptoms Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any of the medicines listed below, as some medicines may be affected by Maalox Plus or they may affect how well Maalox Plus will work. In particular: Some medicines may be affected by magnesium hydroxide or they may affect how well magnesium hydroxide will work. Simeticone is a mixture of silica gel and dimeticone (or dimethicone), a type of silicone, and is also known as activated dimeticone. It works by bringing together the small gas bubbles in your gut to form bigger bubbles, allowing trapped air to pass through your body more easily.

The first two medicines are called dried aluminium hydroxide gel and magnesium hydroxide. They belong to a group of medicines called antacids There are no or limited amount of data from the use of aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide in pregnant women. Animal studies are insufficient with respect to reproductive toxicity (see section 5.3). Maalox is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy and in women of childbearing potential not using contraception. Caution should be exercised when prescribing to pregnant and lactating women.Antacids such as aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide can reduce the absorption of many other medicines from the gut, which may make the other medicines less effective. If you are taking any other medicines, get advice from your pharmacist before taking this antacid. Antacids should preferably not be taken at the same time of day as any other medicines. In general, any interactions can be avoided if you do not take this antacid in the two hours before and after taking any other medicine. Medicines used to treat infections such as fluroquinolones, lincosamides, ketoconazole, cyclines including tetracylines, cephalosporins (cefpodoxime & cefdinir) Maalox Plus should not be taken at the same time as other medicines. This is because Maalox Plus can affect the way other medicines work. If Maalox Plus is taken within one hour of any other medicine, it can affect the uptake of that medicine into the blood. Aluminium hydroxide may cause constipation and magnesium salts overdose may cause hypomotility of the bowel; large doses of this product may trigger or aggravate intestinal obstruction and ileus in patients at higher risk such as those with renal impairment, or the elderly.
