This is where I faced my next problem. There’s no way to add any kind of counterbalance to the head where the phone attaches. So, with a VND filter attached to my phone, it’s very heavy to one side, even when pushed as far as it’ll go into the gimbal mount. If you’re only going to be shooting vertical video, though, this isn’t much of a problem, as it will happily balance vertically even with the filter attached – just not horizontally. When handheld gimbals first became a thing, I spent a lot more time reviewing the core stabilization performance of each gimbal I got my hands on.The “Fantastic Rotation” mode works a little like Inception mode, except that it randomly rotates the camera in one direction or the other, changing to the beat of some music. At least, that’s what it says. Personally, I haven’t really found it to have any correlation with any music that might be playing at all.

It was the perfect size/weight for what it is, but no matter how much I messed with it the phone would noticeably list to one side or the other. And I really didn't like the app. At present, countless mobile gimbal stabilisers will do this, so to stand out, Hohem the manufacture of the iSteady X has had to do something unique. The calibration process takes around 30 seconds and the LED lights on the front panel of the gimbal will stay flashing until the process is complete. I’d recommend placing the gimbal on a flat surface using the included tripod to balance it properly. The gimbal motors are also dead silent, so you don’t have to worry about unwanted mechanical noises making it into the video (a common issue among early generation gimbals). The Type-C cable is your standard 12″ plastic-coated cable. No fancy silicone coating here, which makes me potentially question its longevity. But you’re only using it for charging then it’s not taking too much stress and replacement Type-C USB cables are very inexpensive now if you do ever need to buy a new one. The all-plastic body no doubt helps it shed a few ounces but it doesn’t put its build quality in the same league as some of the more expensive stabilizers. Those often feature rubberized grips or aluminum alloy bodies, but no such luxury is present on the iSteady X. Fill Light: iSteady V2 has LED video light featuring adjustable 3-level brightness. Feel free to enjoy natural light photography and clear night shooting.Powering on and connecting the app on the iPhone 11 Pro to the Hohem iSteady X and everything is straightforward. The connection is fast and works, and after an auto-calibration, everything’s ready to go; I’d say about 2-3 minutes for the complete initial set-up.
